It a a good point. The odds suggest we are due an unexpected result somewhere but I just don’t see it in us to go to a West Ham or Leicester and get something. It means there will be huge pressure on us picking up our points from the below 5 games. I only see 7 or 8 points from that lot which probably means we will need something from elsewhere.

Burnley
Watford
Brentford
Leicester (H)
Palace

Everton that

The January trnsfer window may be the deciding factor here.

It was bad enough that we got 2 FBs in that weren't anywhere the standard we require and £40M was spent on them, but to then compound it by getting Alli in was atrocious judgement.

Another CB was an obvious decision.

If we'd have bought a couple of Championship level FBs and an CB we'd have been alright. As it is we are scrapping for our lives down there.

Can’t see Arsenal having anything to play for on the final day. Although I’m sure their fans would delight at relegating us.
To be fair, All this about Teams having nothing to play for means nothing to me, as its not like they are going to play bad, they will still be up for it been professionals and wanting to win to send the crowd home happy etc, in the same way that it was said before that west ham may rest players for our game due to Europe, you could say the same for the Derby, we still have a lot of work to do and still need the help of others for me anyway, as i would not and never will count of us to do something we need

Hopefully arteta still has a soft spot for us and goes with kids if that game is meaningless for them...they are looking very good for top 4 right now.

Newcastles window was annoyingly savvy compared to ours...

Boro 8 Man City 1
West Brom 5 Man Utd 5.

Some mad stuff goes on last day, it might not be the worst time to play them.

From the games we have left I cant see us getting less than 9 points...not on the form shown since FL stepped in.

(Cup game against PL Brentford* legitimately included in the following sequence), that's:

WLWLLLLW

9 *points* from 9 games.

Gets us to 34 points.

For me, Burnley are the only ones capable of geting past us from the bottom 3. That would mean they'd have to make up the 4 point deficit and win 13 points. They have a decent run in full of points winning potential. But they're still Burnley and they have the same points as us in their last 9: DWWLDDLLL.

So - all things following that pattern fairly closely - they'd struggle to get past us even on our lowest predicted total of 34 IMO.

But I cant see us getting just 9 points. I think we've stumbled into a formula of playing where we dont get too adventurous but rather keep ourselves in a game and wait our chance(s).

On that basis I see us picking up another 12-15 points. And I dont think that's too fanciful.

Injuries to key players permitting, of course.

That'd see us on 37-40 points and would more than likely see us about 5th from bottom.

One important factor is that I think we could surprise some of the big boys we still have to play. Those games we have nothing to lose and a lot to gain...and I think this when we play better...an example is the city game where we should have at least one point.

I think it was clear in one of Franks answers in the post Newcastle interview that he will be pragmatic from here on in. He said something along the lines of, we need to work with the crowd and battle for points, he went on to say that in the future he wants to change the way we play, but, for now, it's all about survival, by any means possible.

I’ll take staying up by hook or by crook, now is not the time to establish a style for this team. We didn’t pass out from the back against the toon, we were on the ropes at times but got 3 points. More of the same please including grinding out a 0-0 tomorrow and going to Wembley thanks to a shootout

Yeah. They’re in the position though where they can dispense with most of these players at any point. If Trippier or Burn aren’t needed in a season it doesn’t matter. Wood is rubbish but it doesn’t bother them.

We’re in a position where we can’t write off players due to FFP, we couldn’t buy short term fixes, pay them big wages, and give them decent contracts.

Agree with this, other than maybe the reds away nothing is a write off. We've set up well against the bigger sides the last few years and for me United and Chelsea at home are both opportunities for a big three points, neither side is invincible.

That would definitely see us stay up, but I’m less optimistic about our final tally. We may survive, but by the skin of our teeth.

We need some points out of the next four difficult league games. I can’t see any wins, maybe two draws?
