If we win three games in quick succession that'll get us out of this. Been saying that since October though and that hasn't happened so I'm not expecting it to happen now. If we lose to Watford and Burnley we'll likely go down. Looking at how the season has gone so far we're more likely to lose away to a bottom three team than go on a winning run unfortunately.

That’s not true though.

They’re two away games, we already know home games are the key. I can guarantee if Watford and Burnley win those games they won’t be saying “that’s Everton down”.

The Newcastle win was huge but the first half performance was pretty rubbish. I dread to think where we’d be if we hadn’t have won that, and that’s clearly what the referee was pushing for that night.

Very worrying. We have to be able to win games where there’s no margin for referees to shaft us (as we did v Leeds). If we’re hoping for tight wins or a favourable refereeing decision for us, it’s not happening. We’re going to have to stay up the hard way. No one will be getting a red card agaisnt us, we’re not getting any pens, we’re extremely suspect to conceding both in every game. It’s going to be a mammoth task.

The problem with this logic though is it suggests that Burnley overtaking not only us but also Leeds was feasible until last night’s result. That just doesn’t ring true.

With a Leeds draw they’d have been six points ahead of Burnley. The odds of Burnley catching them were extremely slim anyway.

If we finish ahead of Burnley we will be safe, that was the case before last night and it’s the same now. Watford are toast.
Watford aren't toast mate they have plenty of winnable games and can not be ruled out.
After last night it's 2 out 3 going down , Us Burnley and Watford .
Leeds winning last night changed the whole picture , we are not capable of coming back from 2 down
I am more worried than ever now

The Newcastle win was huge the team now know a bit of effort without being fantastic can win games.

We'll win 5 more games.
We don’t need to win 5. Guy on Twitter after the Leeds game , by the way shows how much luck plays a part 6 points from a 94min winner v the worst team in the league then last night got battered . For an hour then a soft yellow for Jimenez and it all changers.

And some guy saying that’s Leeds out of it lol.
Leeds 29 Brentford 30 Newcastle 31 all still in. Though I expect Newcastle to get out of it. Leeds still have tough games and can’t defend and Brentford have Tough games as well

So 29/30 points is safe then
Sound 1 win 2 draws and roll on next season

Burnley have an inferior goal difference already having played less games and are about to play City without two of their better defenders. Prior form suggests they aren’t going to finish with a better GD than Brentford are. Even when Burnley win games they don’t win by 2 or 3.

You think it’s not incredible odds that a team who’ve won three games all season will get 12 more points than Brentford ? Agree to disagree.

Brentford have won 8 in 29 but we’re talking about a scenario where they win zero in 9. Come on.

11 more points if Brentford are to lose 7 from 9. (That will hammer their goal difference. And I’m going on your suggestion on their results)

You must have been astonished when Newcastle went from 18th to 12th in the same time frame last year. Or when Villa took 8 points from their last 4 games to stay up the season before.

Teams at the bottom pick up - it happens just about every single season.

And stop moving the goalposts - you said IF Brentford only pick up 2 more points.

You don’t know it will hammer their goal difference enough for Burnley’s to be better.

I’m not sure why you have referenced Villa, as they got 9 points from their final 11 games. Not 11.

Newcastle were 16th after 27 games and sat on 27 points.

Not a good comparison.
