Request for a current affairs forum

I appreciate that this is first and foremost an Everton related football forum, however I'm sure there's enough interest in having a current affairs forum under the GOT umbrella.

Save getting the Ale House clogged up with endless political arguments subsequently deleted - a dedicated forum, I'll even offer to moderate it :o

Mods, owners, debt-holders etc what's the view?

To be fair, that's kinda how things are at the moment. We made an exception for Thatcher because the issue was so divisive, but by and large we tend to give political threads a chance and only shut them once they get a bit daft.

Fair point. But Thatcher was such an important topic that people had an opinion on, the Boston bombing thread was 20 pages of speculation at one point.

Of course I have.

I'd love the old rep system to come back. But it's not really a decision for me.

You still asked like (y) Off topic and speaking of rep, since the thumb system has come in, after about 2 days I think both nigel and stend have gone AWOL. Co-incidence, or conspiracy mate?

If enough people show interest and band together in a thread like this, and mods deem they have enough time to do it, it might happen, who knows.

I noticed this too mate. Strange how the people most enraged seemingly have vanaished.

On topic: I guess I just find it weird that people want a serious seperate forum for politics or whatever on a football forum. It's probably just my own opinion, but I come on here for fun, and as it makes me happy to talk about crap and Everton (sometimes crap Everton). If I ever wanted to have a chat about something actually serious, then i'm not sure i'd go to a football forum for it.

There used to be a Games Forum on here when I first joined. It was fun, people chatted about specific games, and anything games related in there. Was good. But totally understood why it was removed. It was very niche, and didn't appeal to everyone. I kinda thing the same with a Current Affairs forum. Just as people didn't go in the games forum, people like me wouldn't go in the Current Affairs forum.

These are just my thoughts. I've waffled quite a lot there haven't I? I think it's due to losing about 2 pints of blood in the last 14 hours.

I like waffles.

I miss the games forum too if I'm honest. Right nerd me when I want to be.

If it's viable in terms of moderating and there being space for it within the sites current format then I have no issue with it. I tend to wander into threads that I have no interest in and end up leaving it having talked about masturbation and thrown a fat joke in about goat, if there was a separate current affairs section with suitable warnings and bans dished out for any stupidity then I think it'd work and knobs like me would steer clear.

I realise this is first and foremost a football forum, or casual dating site, but I can't see a problem with it. But then I don't run the site so I don't know what the costs in both monetary and time are.

Ah, this debate again.

We can't facilitate it - we've tried in the past and it just doesn't work.

The default position for moderators is

Contributions must not:
q) Be religious, racial or political. There are other forums on the Internet suited for exactly this type of discussion, and ask that you please conduct such discussions on those forums.

... all are always at the discretion of a moderator and we'll always look to apply common sense as to what can run it's course with a close eye, and what can't.
