I appreciate that this is first and foremost an Everton related football forum, however I'm sure there's enough interest in having a current affairs forum under the GOT umbrella.

Save getting the Ale House clogged up with endless political arguments subsequently deleted - a dedicated forum, I'll even offer to moderate it :o

Mods, owners, debt-holders etc what's the view?

I'm not mate and i'm sorry if it comes across as that.

The wrestling thread gets derailed and the people who like wrestling accept it. That's the point i'm trying to make.

That is how it's coming across to me, you've posted the most on this thread but you've said on several occasions you don't have an interest in the topic.

This thread is running fine, Bruce Wayne posted an interesting article that people have read and discussed, everyone is being civil so there is no need for the mods to get involved. As Groucho said its not really the topic which is the problem but how people write their posts, so far everyone is being sound so there is no need to close it.

This is the thing. Esk brought up a good point, and not picking on anyone specifically, it's gone to the dogs within a couple of pages.

If it was trialled, I'd say the forum supporters area would be the best place to test.

Forgive me if I am wrong but there seems to be a bit of a difference between the two.

One says 'we can't facilitate it' and the other says, 'IF it was trialed, I'd say the forum supporters area'.

I think we should trial it.

To be clear, I am but a humble mod so what I posted was just my personal opinion rather than any kind of consensual 'this is what the management think'.

We were both much of the same opinion I think, and equally are both merely humble mods :) It's ultimately Dan's call as it's his baby. As he says though it's kinda inevitable that politics or current affairs type threads will crop up in the Ale House, and we try and treat them on their merits.

Having a dedicated area for such threads though is a wee bit different. I suspect it wouldn't be an issue if we didn't have so much evidence that such threads tend to go pear shaped. I appreciate that having a separate area would make 'disciplining' folks easier, it is really in you folks hands. If we can talk about these things sensibly then it makes any calls for a dedicated area much easier.

I've been away for a few days and did not expect this thread to be current when I returned.

As things stand I still believe the original suggestion would benefit the GOT forum as a whole, but I'm not going out of my way to persuade other posters, mods or the owner to change their minds. The owner has his view, it's his site and I respect his right to have that view.

Bruce I meant to put thanks but it was my fault. I only meant to quote Groucho 'If it was trialled, I'd say the forum supporters area would be the best place to test. Sorry.

Yeah, I mean, it was a pretty big if. That was just a thought, not gospel because as Bruce says, we have to go with our superiors wishes.

If it ain't broke.........

I think it is a good idea to have a specific current affairs forum, as current affairs keep popping up in the Ale house or Everthing else forum.

Just because it has been tried before does mean that it necessarily should be a no go.

Ok. Can we have the Games Forum back then please?
