Confirmed Signing Richarlison

I like my stats and from what I've seen Richarlison is exceptional at getting in scoring positions from wide positions.

His finishing has been really poor but can be worked on.

If we are going from fast counter attacking football (we'll need to sort the midfield for it to properly work) he could be really good.

You will see a lot of posts complaining that we spent big money on players whose value won’t increase (Sigurdsson, Bolasie, Klaasen etc) and we should have bought younger players with potential. You will also see a lot of posts saying we shouldn’t be gambling on potential when we need established players for now.
Both arguments have their merit, both have their flaws. The crux of it is, Silva and Brands need to decide which one they are going to do. No matter which option they choose, a lrge section of the fanbase will be unhappy and say they are doing it wrong.

Exactly - and ultimately the success of them will be judged in 12 months time and not now. It’s still fun to read people’s opinions though - which makes this such a great site.

So we're pinning our hopes on his disastrous second half of the season being down to tiredness/Silva leaving right?

I mean no one really knows but I think it's a fair shout, First season in Premiership first season in England etc, Lad is only 21 remember.

I think had we signed Richarlison last summer for 11m, we all would have been excited about getting a young Brazilian before the big boys snapped him up...

Signing him a year later, after only 3 months of form, for between 40-50m (depending on which reports you read), is where fans start questioning our transfer dealings...

Would have also thought when Brands was interviewed about this job, he had better ideas than a deal like this (or other deals like Mina, Wellbeck, Zaha, Januzaj which are being rumoured about).... Wheres this years Richarlison?.... If we liked Lozano and Mina before the World Cup, why didn't we move then..

I guess we'll find out in the next 3 weeks if Brands has more up his sleeve than Walsh did...

It worries me if Moshiri thinks a change of manager will fix the problems of last season... It really won't...

I'm happy with Richarlison, much needed pace to our left side... Just don't think it's sustainable for us to keep spending big money on players like this, we need to be spotting this talent earlier otherwise whats the point of Brands...

Quick and maybe pointless comparison to players in a similar position and their stats at the same age.

Most playing for the top or one of the top teams in their respective leagues with the exception of Alexis Sanchez.

I know that data has been selected to paint the picture of Richarlison not being a great buy, but his situation is just SO much different to any (or certainly most) of those listed

1st season in a new league
That league is (arguably) the toughest for new signings to come into
Playing for a much worse team than any in that list
Having already played ~half a season before even starting the PL season.
Manager that signed him left half way thru season

Actually gives me optimism that there's plenty of unexplored potential for him

So we're pinning our hopes on his disastrous second half of the season being down to tiredness/Silva leaving right?
Also the other stuff above

If that was the impression then it certainly was not my intention. (To be fair you should maybe reread the first two paragraphs of my op)

The data was selected to show him against the very, very best players in world football, most playing for title winning teams at his age.

I like him and I want him in. Had his form not dipped off and had he not been playing for Watford he could have doubled those numbers up. The Sanchez/Udinese comparison is probabaly the most fair.

I don’t think it’ll be Richarlison and no other signings. I’m pinning my hopes to Silva getting the best out of the kid (and let’s be honest he looks like he has the tools) and is signing a few more.

Mina
Digne
Richarlison
Lozano

While these are probably not necessarily happening they would all be moves in the right direction. Fulham brought JM Sari I’m so maybe we could punch above our weight for a player or two
