2020/21 Richarlison

Most football players want to take penalties. Especially offensive players. But that discussion is taken before the season, before the match. Then one must be loyal to that decision. Sometimes it happens that the regular shooter gives the task to someone else, but then it is the shooter himself who has decided it.

However, players should never start discussing this before the penalty kick. Taking a penalty kick is a mental thing, and then you have to be focused on the task. What Richarlison did was unacceptable, not only because he disturbed Gylfi, but the way he did it. It was also unacceptable because the action clearly showed that he put himself before the team. He was disloyal to the team.

Yes, Richarlison needs a goal, but more importantly, Everton needed a win. Ancelotti had decided that Gylfi was the man he would trust when it comes to penalties. Therefore, he also questioned Ancelotti's authority. I reckon Richarlison has given an apology to his teammates and Ancelotti, and said it will never happen again. But he shows behavior, the Brazil incident and the penalty kick, which shows that he puts himself in front of the club, and that is not good for the team spirit in a group.

Richy is clearly desperate to get on the scoresheet. Carlo has set him and DCL ambitious targets this year and he is falling behind the curve.

Nothing wrong with having a desire to score - in fact it is extremely healthy to have that competition amongst the forwards - but as others have stated, this has to be tempered to ensure the best outcomes for the side.

So long as he makes the right decisions in open play, squaring the ball instead of shooting if your teammate has a better chance of netting, then a squabble over a set piece is nothing major imho.

I'm sure Carlo has the experience to manage this type of needle and use it to motivate the players in the right direction.

Maybe Richy was just as mythed and frustrated with Sigurdsson as much as we have been. It could be that he's seen Siggy put in shocking performances and angry that he gets the chance to take a pen to mask his ineptitude - a step to far haha.

No it's not good what Richy did but let's not over analyse it as the media will be already using this as an opportunity to create disharmony within our team anyway.

Not over analyzing it mate, I haven't got too much of a problem with what he did with the first pen because it couldn't have been that bad because it didn't effect Sigurdsson. The issue is for the second pen shout, it's how aggressive Richarlison is by putting his head into Sigurdsson's, Richarlison just makes himself look like a massive nob.

I haven't got a problem with him wanting to take the pen, the problem was how aggressive he was towards Sigurdsson for the second pen that wasn't given, Richarlison literally puts his head into Sigurdsson, surely we can't be having that.

I agree completely with that. In fairness to Sigurdsson, he handles the situation very well.It would have been easy to react and you have a Lee Bowyer/Keiran Dyer situation.

Yeah as I say, it's not ideal, it's not really what I want to see, and it's petulant, but in the grand scheme of things it's really not something to get worked up about. I just find it a bit bizarre that it's always penalties that get people's goat with this, it was like Mirallas was suddenly the worst person in the world when he did it and people still bring it up now, when there are a million other things that go on in games and behind closed doors that are loads worse.

I think as someone has said, it was more the appearing to stick the head in to a teammate. I am probably emblishing it slightly, but it was aggressive in it's mannerisms. I also think it puts Sigurdsson in a really tight spot and to be fair, he does well not to react, as if he had, it could have easily seen both players sent off.

I thought Ancelotti handled it well at the end. Probably quite a clear message at full time that the penalty taker is decided before the game and thats final would be useful. Maybe with the fillip for Richarlinson he takes them if Sigurdsson is off the pitch (which he is a fair bit).

Athletico are in debt of nearly £900 million.

Absolutely fake news.

No one at this moment in time is going to pay the amount of money we would be looking for him anyway. Also, if we get into Europe
and bring in some quality in the Summer (hopefully some in January as well) he may be convinced to not start making noises about wanting to move.
