2020/21 Richarlison

His effort levels and physical contribution both defensively and going forward are thankfully near enough a given every game, which is why his base level of performance is so high, relatively speaking.

He hasn't been frustrated and throwing strops, getting sent off etc because he's been playing great and everything's been going fine though. He knows right well that he's been crap in front of goal and hasn't exactly set the world alight on the creative side of things either. He has been absolutely nowhere near his best so far. I also don't think he sees himself as a left sided forward either. I think he wants to be a striker and is also frustrated that he's been played "out of position."

I think the debate on whether his best position is on the left or up front can be put to bed now. He doesn't have the shooting, crossing or passing ability for that position to be his best. I'm not even sure he has the pace. He's regularly opting not to take his full back on in games and pass it inside because generally they're all rapid and he knows he can't get by them (see Reece James as a good example). He's a striker, albeit a very different kind to our first choice, DCL.

None of this is to say he can't do a great job on the left though, regardless of how comfortable he is there. He's had the chances to bag either way and he'll get more.
He's said himself his best position is striker, The problem is having Richarlison and DCL up top and then James playing wherever it's too risky when our midfield and defense is thin as paper.

If you play a proper fullback then he can come inside enough that he's almost playing striker even as he starts wider and has to defend back. But we don't have Digne and Nkounkou isn't in the picture so he's a winger until further notice and it doesn't suit him all the way.

True. It's a shame we have to ask him to sacrifice himself a bit when his often quite selfless contribution to the team is already enormous. I'm sure this is behind a lot of his frustration, but as you rightly say, if we want to play James, 4-4-2 isn't anywhere near as feasible.

And people say that I should be more willing to see the other side on here, yet half the time there is no other side to see.
Jeeez, was just a prank bro.

The boys in poor form, but all it takes is for him to smash it for the last month of the season, take a Copa by storm, hes very talented, prone to a bit of a sulk, but he wins games.

I see no reason why we would sell for less than 100m.

I agree with not selling him for under 100m so long as his contract isn't running down but to me that also means we aren't selling him, which I'm fine with, because no one is going near that price. It'll be the same as Rom was where without the leverage of a running down contract he was never going.

I actually don't think he's playing that poorly. We're asking him to do things that aren't his natural game right now.

Hes defo in a bit of a slump.

That doesn't even mean hes poor, hes just not his sparkling best.

Hes a wonderful player.

He's just not finished well. At the start of the season that's all that went wrong, imo.

Now it is a bit different because Lucas' absence is making him hold more width and he's never done his best work as he gets closer to the touchline. It's one reason I'd love for Nkounkou to be trusted but that won't be happening. The ball retention he showed against Arsenal was quite poor.

People need to chill with Nkounkou, when hes ready Carlo will give him his chance.

I just want real fullbacks. Baines on a 6 month deal would be fine. A loan for some random left footed guy from the championship would be too. Just a real LB playing LB so we can balance out this attack.

I think we're living on the edge with how we're spawning goals the last few games. Yeah we're winning but these usually dry up. Having James come in should help at least.

With Nkounkou in the team we dont win 9 from 9.

Currently Godfrey is a better left back in the PL than Nkounkou.

That's nothing against the lad, he looks really promising and will get his chance. Of that I have no doubt. I expect to see him back on the pitch in the FA cup in a fortnight and I expect him to do well again.
