Currently Godfrey is a better left back in the PL than Nkounkou.

That's nothing against the lad, he looks really promising and will get his chance. Of that I have no doubt. I expect to see him back on the pitch in the FA cup in a fortnight and I expect him to do well again.

I'm not really disputing that right now, although I am far from certain that it is the case. I'm more saying that we really could use a left footer to hold the width on the left because at some point this season we're going to need to create multiple chances from open play in a match. It'll help Richarlison a lot if we do.

Maybe not. But playing like we are we're liable to take 0 from the next 9 because we aren't creating anything in open play.

Granted its rookie numbers, but to say its nothing, is a tad untrue.

My count is 18 of those are from set plays. We're good at set plays and it is a bonus but that's all it can be. You can't make the CL on set plays unless you're a top tier defensive team and even then it is hard. We aren't that. We have Pickford in net.

I think we've had this conversation before but it isn't 2004. I think Arsenal fans can help you out with that if you're unsure.

I think they'll improve no doubt but they also kind of have to. We've used up our create little and still win the game matches for a bit I'd reckon.

I personally think we have created plenty, people have just brain farted at the wrong times.

Yeah I just don't agree. We've not really had anything on a plate aside from the Holgate goal (and DCL's shot right before) since the goal at Burnley and even the Leicester one was a corner.

I'm only concerned because Digne meant a lot to our attack before he was injured. I mean we aren't winning at Fulham with Godfrey at LB.

And as this is Richarlison's thread I'll make sure I say that he needs to both step up but also get a bit more help.

But in a lot of ways we probably are winning there, because both of their goals come down our left. Godfrey's speed on the first one probably saves us, and we don't get skinned down the right for the 2nd.

First Fulham goal came straight through the center did it not?

Maybe we keep a clean sheet two of every three games with the 4 CBs in the backline but I'd not bet on it myself.

It came down the right. The channel between Mina and the left back. Godfrey naturally would have been tighter to the CB.

I'm not sure what the wider argument is though. Digne will come back at LB when he's fit, but at least we have a good replacementin the interim.

The wider argument is we aren't creating squat from open play and we might do if we had a real fullback who would allow Richarlison to do the things he is good at more and not have to hold width which he is pretty not good at. It's one of those things where people get clouded by the wins a bit and don't want to change things when we could be playing better and will probably need to in short order.

It's more like team suffers when it decides fullbacks aren't important. Yeah we'd have been worse without Digne going forward but where we are at currently is more than that.

Ultimately I just want to see Richarlison play well. A fullback is a start.
