Holding him back until mid September seems far too long to me. There are 3 more Brazil games before that so why should we rest him if he will be going for more internationals?

He should be given a week off and expected to play week 2. But it wouldn't surprise me if he wants to keep playing either. He isn't one to miss many matches, even when he has a knock.

Well apparently he's back this week so we'll see.

I was under the impression he'd be granted between 10 days and 14 days leave - so that would have meant him not being back for the Leeds game, and needing a bit of time to get back to full fitness after a break (a week off is enough to dent fitness at the highest level of performance).

The players are entitled to at least 3 weeks. That was my point. He'd only took one of those weeks but seems like he's keen to get back on it

The good thing is he's sharp. Been playing competitive football all summer.

He will need to be carefully managed but if he wants to play then at least he's an option to have, even if it's to ease him back in.

He hasn't trained with the team but neither has Dom really other than one or two days, plus it's not like our plan is anything other than give it to Townsend to cross in

He was knackered at the back end of last season and the league is a whole different pace to the Copa and Olympics. Add all the traveling to one side of the world to the other....

Wouldn't play him for a couple of weeks in my book.
