2021/22 Richarlison

“It was frustrating I couldn’t stay on the pitch against Crystal Palace but Rafael did the right thing for me and for the team.

“I wasn’t able to play at my maximum capacity because of the issue with my calf and if I stayed on I would have done more damage and, probably, faced a longer period out of the team.

“I love playing football and love playing for Everton and am always sad when it isn’t possible to be on the field with my teammates.

“I understand the manager was trying to protect me. My recovery started as soon as I received the diagnosis from my scan and I will work every waking hour to be back in the blue shirt as soon as possible.

Oh dear. Horrible when an agenda doesn’t come together isn’t it.

As I said yesterday, some times players need to be protected from themselves.

The sad thing is that some people will forget this detail and still say "remember when Benetiz subbed Richy at Palace?"

Looks like it was the right move, but one that ultimately cost us anything in the game with it still only 1-0 at the time.

It's understandable after years of abject failure but we've become hysterical.

I understand the dislike of benitez due to his RS connections but he was right about Richarlison and those accusing him of making the whole thing up look ridiculous.

Do you really think a professional manager with his previous achievements (sorry!) would cococt a crazy lie about the reasons behind making a substitution? Like he is too afraid to stand by his decisions or admit to them? He's clearly not afraid to challenge people when he feels it's necessary (whether you agree with the reasons for it or not).

I get that we're hurting but the supporters are becoming a laughing stock and part of the problem. We need to take a hard look at ourselves

Welcome to the forum.

There's some truth to that.

I would say though that not taking him off at half time was an even bigger mistake.

It's also worth adding that Richarlison is a bit odd. I remember him crying when he was subbed late on when playing for Watford when his team were beating (Chelsea I think?) pretty well.

If his injury was that bad why was he so angry? It's all very odd you could say he didn't know the severity but if you have a tear you have the kind of pain that stops you walking let alone running surely? Why was he sent out in the second half?

He did hold his calf several times during the game and again when on the bench. But his reaction was a strange one.

Saying that, I reckon you could bring him a birthday cake and he'd have a face like a slapped arse

I think we've finally lost it.

I cant see how a manager (under pressure) would boot out his best player....for a month....when he NEEDS wins.
Then expects the player (who has previous for throwing a strop) to go along with the lie and just sit there for a month.

Because Richy would play on one leg if someone would let him.

The guy eats lives and breathes football.

Exactly. Benitez's arrival was bound to be problematic for tribal reasons but supporters are still creating a toxic atmosphere, failing to see reality and losing the plot completely which is only hindering us.

Some of the claims being made look like they're coming from the mentally deranged.

I think you've got to admire Benitez for his desire to tackle things head on and try to turn around an hysterical and dysfunctional supporter base. It's hardly an atmosphere conducive to success but he is clearly not afraid of a challenge.

Or we could just sack him and bring in Ferguson?
