2021/22 Richarlison

Swansea insisted on £45m for Sigurdsson and they simply didn't budge on that valuation.

€50m for Richarlison is completely unacceptable.

It's only about two-thirds of fair value. I'd only start talking at £60m not €60m, let alone €50m.

They just have to hardball it. If Spurs (or anyone else) want him badly enough then they'll stump up with a better offer.

There is a few weeks to run in this, negotiations haven't even started.

If he has a stormer of a world cup , and there's every chance playing for Brazil his worth absolutely rockets with 18 months left on his contract.

If we sell @50mil we would look pretty stupid. The screams on here would be unmerciful.

Problem with this theory:
Selling in January (e.g. 18 months left, after the WC) would mean that he'd also need replacing in January, where other teams ask for a lot more because they'd also need to replace their players etc (only exception being South American leagues).
PL teams would just shrug their hypothetical shoulders and wait until June/July, at which point he'd have 12 months left on his contract.
So you have three potential valuations:

- Pre-WC 2 years left Richarlison
- Post-WC January 18m left Richarlison
- Next summer 12m left Richarlison

Meanwhile, you're going into a new season with basically the same squad that struggled last season.

What’s Sancho’s stats in the same league? Playing for a better team. Richarlison also has a better record for his country, more that twice a better record.

What do you think utd would get this summer if they put him up for sale?

His record for his country doesn't affect his value. Scoring against Qatar, Honduras, El Salvador and Bolivia doesn't add much weight in negotiations.

If Sancho was to be put up for sale this summer, there would be a market for him. Liverpool, Chelsea and probably City would all be interested as they were during his time at Dortmund. He signed for £73m last summer, I think they could get close to that figure this summer, no problem.

His market value is still much higher than Richarlisons because he is younger and has done it consistently at a higher level. Plus he is English.

The issue is, that we need to sell a player, and Swansea didn't with Sigurdsson. Also that sale essentially relegated them and we paid that in the post.

We would need to sell to buy. We don’t need to sell DCL or richarlison if we don’t want to.

They’re two totally different things

But we need to buy. Our midfield is trash. Our defence is trash. It’s imperative we improve it or we are in another scrap. Unless we work miracles in the loan and free transfer market.

Problem with fees is the big ones have dropped off a cliff since the start of COVID, as you can see... The year before COVID there were players like Ndombele and Jovic going for more than £52M, now there are hardly any... And the ones that are are normally top players going to top clubs. Not sure a club would look at Richarlison, with two years left on his deal and think that paying more than that would be good value.
He has 2 years left on his contract not 6 months. We hold all the cards. Plenty of players still go for ridiculous money with 12 months left.

He will leave but at a price we want. Very much doubt it’s to Spurs

What’s his alternative - down tools, lose his rapport with the fans and miss the World Cup

All sh**e options really aren't they? Selling a player that everyone loves out of necessity because the club has been managed so badly and it can't afford more than free transfers without bringing in fees.

Been in the bottom half of the league in terms of net and gross spend cumulatively over the past four years because of the above.

Gaping holes everywhere in the side/squad...

Just really depressing, nobody wants to sell him... Think we are the only club in the premier league last 5 years or so who have actually *needed* to sell players.

You’re clueless, why would Liverpool won’t him? They’ve just spent 80 on a striker. And city wouldn’t want him either, he doesn’t get in
Their side not a chance.

Player signs for 70mil flops in the toughest league in the world and gets sold for the same price ?
So arsenal will get their money back on Pepe?

Never heard so much rubbish in my life. And sancho has never played against weak opposition in an England shirt?

Generally yeah. The PL is now so 'rich', even for new teams, and most are owned by billionaires (albeit tight or false ones) anyway, so teams generally don't need to sell in the modern PL era unless they feel like they can trade up.

Quite calamitous as to where some £500m has gone, although it's rather unlucky when your record transfer disappears in unspoken circumstances.

Being a bit skint is usually the best way to bring the next Stones/Barclay/Rooney/Rodwell, so the longer term might be a little more positive in the end. Lampard seems to be good with the younger players, and hopefully there's another Gordon in the mix.

All the best to him wherever he goes. Him, Pickford and the fans are the reason we aren’t in the championship next season. The price is the price, we can’t control that unless another club starts a bidding war.

Yeah, whole string of terrible luck with injuries.

Bolasie's career effectively ending after 10 games with us.
Gbamin's career effectively ending after 10 minutes with us.
Gbamin's injury forced us into buying Doucoure/Allan as well
Buying three centre midfielders when Gueye left- Delph Gbamin and Gomes, and Gueye playing more minutes than all three combined due to injuries.
Tosun doing his ligaments weeks before he's going to Palace for 14M.
Our best defender just breaking down time and time again.
