2021/22 Richarlison

3 more than DCL in the same 4 season period, between them in their respective times at the club they’ve scored 111 in all competitions (Dom leads 58-53)
Difference being Richarlison created a number of DCL's goals either directly or indirectly. We can replace DCL far more easily than Richarlison.

I am not all for selling him. If we could keep him, I would like to. But that does not seem to be an option.

It is possible to sell Richarlison for around £60m or more and replace him with three first team players who can contribute well to the team.

If we can get the signings right, then it is not as bad to lose Richarlison.
That's the problem, I have no faith in this institution to "get the signings right". In which case, selling assets other than Richarlison is what we should do, unless we get a higher offer of course.

The problem with selling other assets is we would need to sell 5 or 6 first team players to get the same figure that Richarlison might bring in alone. It stretches the squad.

It seems the feelings are a bit mixed, but that 51m that Spurs are reportedly initially offering is seen as a bit low.

My own view is Richarlison is good, indeed very good for us but not elite. In ordinary circumstances I would want to keep him, but given that we need to bring some transfer/profits and revenues an offer in excess of £50m should be looked at. If we can inch it up towards £60m to me that would be a very decent price.

His record is similar to Mane at Southampton before he went to Liverpool at the same age. Similar to Jarrod Bowen too. All wide forwards who get around 10 goals a season. Mane went for around 40m and I suspect Bowen would go for around 60m. Jota went for 45m and had a similar record. I'm not sure he is massively better than those guys at the equivalent age. So 50-60m feels about fair to me.

Some wider points, is that as a club, we have to get used to selling players more often IMO. It will provide transfer funds, and liquidity that can allow us to operate. As a club, we also have to have a scouting structure that can find the next Richarlison. Not easy to do, but Thelwell spotted Jota initially as a 20 year old. So it can be done. We did well with Gray at 1.7m so there are players out there.

The other point, is the criticism for Dennis and Cornet. Both of them are the same sort of age as Richarlison, and have scored the same amount of goals as Richarlison, in poorer teams than Richarlison. The likelihood is we can sign both players and have money to spare for the figures quote for Richarlison. That feels like good business to me. I'm not saying I sign both or either, but both feel like reasonably low risk options. Yes Dennis struggled 2nd half of the season, but so did Richarlison in his 1st season at Watford. We would not be in the running had he kept on his first half season form and ended up with 16 league goals.

Likewise if Cornet was deadly in front of goal he would probably be out of our reach. Both players could have had a good season, but honestly that's what we pay our scouting staff to do. To ascertain what the best options are. But Cornet at 14m and Dennis at 20m feel like decent buys on the face of things.

It will be sad to lose Richarlison. He has been a great servant. The issue is he has gone from a guy who gets 10+ league goals a season but hasn't really kicked on to another level. That's why he's probably gone from a player who was looking like potentially an 80-100m players into a 50-60m player. The key is, the club has to re-invest money well.

it makes no sense that he joins Spurs. Obviously they are better than us in league position for last several years, and currently have a better chance of winning something, but he is definitely looking to regular CL after this, and that's not Spurs. They are just one manager away (i.e. if Conte leaves) from going back to regular Europa League qualification, and not challenging for the title any time soon.
Obviously they are better than us in terms of financial position squad depth and quality new stadium and already settled in it. Which is miles ahead of where we are anytime soon, we can only dream of Europa league qualification after that awful season. spurs have consistently finished inside the top 7 since 09, since 2014 we've been awful and are continuing that trend but looking even worse lately spurs are miles ahead of us as a club an a much more attractive team to join than ours what player in our squad would get ahead of any spurs player?

It's not that he's amazing, he's just very good, and we simply don't have many very good players. His market value may be £50 to £60 million, but his value to us is £80 to £100 million. Similar to us paying £45 million for Siggurdson who was worth half of that. However, Swansea were relegated after they sold him.

But at the present time, the club need to bring funds in, to resolve FFP and allow us to recruit. So we probably have to be more flexible.

I wouldn't even say he was better never mind massively better id rather of had Jota and Mane at that stage not sure on Bowen just yet Mane was absolute class at Southampton I was gutted when the RS signed him.
