Roberto Martinez and Everton heading for £10million compensation battle

Best money ever spent this 10 mill. Given the prize money per league position we will more than likely recover this in one season. He would have had us close to bottom three next year.

Thanks terraloon

Wasn't a serious question, it was a response to the ridiculous suggestion that the club could hold him responsible for signing other players.

He'll get what the terms of his contract entitle him to, no more, no less, as he should. I know it's hard to swallow for some, but it's no different to other high paid positions & it doesn't compare to some of the CEOs of banks & big PLCs, who've driven them into the ground & still get huge payouts. Or a police chief responsible for Hilsborough getting retired on full pension etc... Some of the hate on this thread is a bit sad.

I always find it amusing that some can't or won't accept that players, managers are no more than employees and just like the average employee those managers and players will look to screw every single penny they can from their employment.

The only real difference is that for the most of us we conduct those negations ourself or get a package agreed at a higher level in football those managers and players have a team of advisors who have no sentiment, no attachment and probably more to the point no scruples.

RM has been sacked, he will in all probability claim it wasn't justified because of a multitude of reasons, many of which we won't have a clue about, the vast majority on here will understandably be judging on purely football matters and no doubt be taking the fact that RM is looking after himself and his family as an affront to their beloved club

In fairness, Everton were the ones that offered him a long term contract on massive wages. Only themselves to blame! (Not that I think he should get anywhere near 10 million for what he did).

Yeah, that's the same lot who are happy for players or managers to walk out of other clubs to us, but abuse our players at the slightest hint. The abuse aimed at Stones was just disgusting!

As was said up the tread, I don't remember hearing complaints when he was extended after that first season.

Just wait till my mate @davek comes back.

He will set you straight on just what a 'success' the last 15 years of Bill Kenwright have been.

Anyone claiming Bill Kenwright is OK. Despite costing the club £23 million in the past 12 months is simply pandering to mediocre chairmanship. At best.

Have copied and pasted what you said about Martinez at the time he signed the extension two years ago, found it quite interesting to read given your stance on the situation.

He's broken the previous managers points haul in his first season and got us playing nice attractive football.

Plus some strategic thinking about the club in general. He's worth every penny as far as I'm concerned.

Its about leadership. He's showing leadership.

We just need to see what players he can bring in. Need a better degree of quality than two of last years signings.

Was unsure in the first three games. Think we need to do better from corners and defend a little better when not in possession. Otherwise Martinez has shown he's got everything.

Love Damo ranting about what a mistake Kenwright made renewing Martinez contract after just the one season.....

I know mate how can his family be expected to live off the millions he's already earned from football and whatever he's still getting for punditry in the meantime, scandalous isn't it

Surely this was expected, with the amount of time he had left on his contract.

The rumours of arguing over a £2m payoff where hysterical.

Joking aside though, I don't know why people are actually having a hissy fit, not as if it's your money personally. I still haven't come down from the high of him being sacked myself, I think I'll buzz off that for a good while yet

The chances of there being no settlement clause for early termination nor any form of acceptable performance criteria is extremely slim indeed.

Therefore it is extremely unlikely that we would have to pay the full value of the remaining contract. The £10 million figure quoted is just never going to happen.

At last someone bringing a bit of sanity into the thread.

Also looking out for EFC's best interests.

That should be PRIORITY NUMERO UNO. :coffee:
