A bit like Bobby
My Point exactly even 3rd & 4th wasn't good enough how the mighty have fallen
"Everton expects success . We've a very good crowd & our crowd are very loyal. But of course , they pay money & they expect us to do well. If we don't do well then something should be done about it & something will be done about it." - Sir John Moores

I can understand why Martinez fluffs things up for the media. Every manager is guilty of doing it to an extent, we live in a 24 hr global news cycle and if he can control the headlines by being positive and reduce pressure on the players, it only seems fair.
However, there is a time for honest appraisal.
He gets nothing out of the positive spin, and maybe gets some respect back from the fans for saying things how they are and not shifting the buck.

This only serves to aggravate and does nothing to cover up what has been a growing issue.

So it's still the players fault. After 18 months of him training them it's still their fault.
He took the credit for his first season by signing a new contract and yet the following 2 years are not down to him.

The mans a hypocrite in my eyes.
Or he's saying the players may have been flat after the cup as opposed to just being rubbish.
Think it's more a question of what wouldn't be his fault for some people

He said jt might have had an effect on the players. I'd been thinking the same thing. Also said they had to get it right anyway. Which is kind of saying it can't be an excuse

If it was true then we would be the only premier league side in the past 20 odd years that wins a cup game and because of it heads dropped.

Winning cup games are meant to be a positive, it is just an excuse to wave about for the results, another in a long line.

the whole point is that deep down he doesn't think that...If the philosophy isn't bringing the results the cure is - add more philosophy, nothing else, just more of the same.

that is why he is getting the same results again and yet he can't figure it out. I keep referencing it but at west ham it was this keep attacking idea that lost us the game. That is not what a good team does so late in the game.

I agree he does seem to have difficulty in managing games from winning positions, again the problem with substitutions surfaces. I understand that he wants to keep attacking, which is one of the only things he's thoroughly consistent with, but sometimes, you just have to say enough is enough, we've already scored enough, lets finish this game off without conceding any goals, rather than looking to finish it off by scoring another. He seems to be oblivious to the fact that his defensive mids, McCarthy etc. can get tired if they're going to be running 10 miles every game

the age old question is why do we constantly concede when playing 4 defenders and 2 holding midfielders? By that type of team we should be shutting most teams out!

But it was the same approach that sent wigan down, this is the crazy thing. It is the same approach as to why we are sitting miles behind worse teams than us that at the very least can pick results up. What is the cut off point? Losing against watford? Another attempt at sending us to 15th. Hell if we dont start winning then norwich are not far off now! Big game this weekend, anything other than a win and he should be getting told he isnt here next season. 4 straight losses should be sackable form now.

Why would Baines apologise for telling the truth?

Because he should have gone to the manager or team first if he thought there was an issue with chemistry? I have no idea. I'm saying I don't think RM would have made him apologise and then come to a press conf and say he did he has apologised for giving the opportunity to be misquoted. Just my take on it.

Behave.

He said - "I've had a chat with him - he has to take responsibility for those words. They've been given the opportunity to attract a meaning that isn't right, and for that he's apologised."

He's obviously rounded on him for telling it as it is.

Are you seriously suggesting Baines would have sought him out and apologised for saying what he said without prompting?

"Behave". lol
Ok mate.

And am I seriously suggesting the opposite of what I've clearly set out as how I imagine the conversation went? The post you've replied to? Ie RM has pulled him up and LB has said "I did say those words but they are out of context". There is clearly a prompt from RM in my prediction of the conversation.

Oh dear lad. Oh, oh dear.

But he wasn't misquoted. Only Bobby appears to think that.

But it's his job to motivate them ffs.

Coming out with yet another lame (and factually sparse) comment about the other cup SF teams not winning last weekend, was dredging the barrel in terms of excuses. The fact that we lost to our potential SF opponents also made it laughable.

That on top of throwing Baines under the bus for having the temerity to state the obvious, made it a shocking day for him today.

He's swinging and missing like a pissed up auld tramp. It's got Brendan Rodgers last days written all over it.
