Echo are being a bit paranoid aren't they? Martinez never even mentioned them directly. Pretty sure ever major sports/news outlet ran this story.

To be fair to the echo, their headline was not as sensationalist as some of the others.

Please.

Whats worse?
Saying they wish to leave for other ambitions or detailing reasons why they arent currently performing?
In terms of what they can and can't say then hard to know how the club can stop them talking about personal ambitions.
And there's nothing wrong with discussing why the club may not be performing. Which is why Baines hasn't been reprimanded for that. The answer to the question was that Baines apologised for saying it in a way that meant it could be used to imply something he didn't mean. And in effect a criticism of the team.
There is a good chance there is absolutely no conflict between player and manager. And it's the press who aren't exactly known for running positive stories about us that both may be annoyed at.

I'm telling you now he's finished, Martinez will not be manager here for next season.

I said it the other day, Moshiri will get in a proven European manager before he opens his wallet to the tune of 100m+, it just makes sense.

If we all were in Moshiri's shoes, we'd check the teams record over the last 2 seasons and get in another manager before investing into the squad.

Roberto will be gone at season's end.

There is no point dodging the bullet......if we are to have any chance of lifting the Cup action needs to be taken in the next week or so.

Just get it over and done with......we know it is inevitable do stop prolonging the agony.

The answer to the question was that Baines apologised for saying it in a way that meant it could be used to imply something he didn't mean. And in effect a criticism of the team.
Then why has Baines not come out to question the press, for in that scenario ultimately it is they who are wrong with the interpretation?

If I had been misrepresented to a point whereby it may be seen as a criticism by my manager, I would be disgruntled with the press.

Instead, it has been Baines who has been asked to apologise whereas the press have not been criticised by Martinez. Do you not find that strange?

Hence why the majority of people see this as an act of censure for reasons that have nothing to do with any misinterpretation.

Add to the fact that the Echo, so often criticised by our fan own based for being overly pro-club, now seem to be readying their ammunition.

But it's his job to motivate them ffs.

Coming out with yet another lame (and factually sparse) comment about the other cup SF teams not winning last weekend, was dredging the barrel in terms of excuses. The fact that we lost to our potential SF opponents also made it laughable.

Leaving aside the current chaotic state of the playing side at Everton, Bob touches on sommat which I believe is becoming a big factor and is a direct consequence of playing the semi finals at Wembley.

There is a feeling abroad that "we have made it to Wembley.....yay" and whereas players of mid table teams used to lose focus when their team reached the Final, now the semi final has become almost as big as making the Final on account of the Wembley date.

Hammers and United will be able to keep focused because they are still in the 4th Place Trophy, but EFC, Palace and Watford will drift toward the big day in third gear IMO.

It is lucky for us those two latter teams are next up for the Blues.

Because I can't see us getting much from Saints or the RS.

Don't forget that 2-0 defeat at Stoke either that was dreadful.

Please turn it around Roberto

There's been loads of pathetic performances under him, where we've just given up as soon as the first goal was conceded. As well as the two games mentioned above, 3-0 v Southampton, 4-0 v Liverpool, 2-0 Arsenal the other week, 3-0 United this season, 2-0 Arsenal away last season, 3-0 Swansea in the cup. There's zero fight in this team, none at all, it's humiliating. We always at least competed under Moyes, even if we were playing for a 0-0 draw sometimes

It's well established that journalists know people are effected more by headlines and lead statements than the actual content. And I'm amazed how anyone could read what was actually said and feel it is represented by the tone of the article.
Presume saying he allowed himself to be misinterpreted was to avoid directly saying they've been malicious. But a lot of clubs are encouraging players to say as little as possible to avoid how it's presented in the press. In Europe you have the ridiculous situation of players covering their mouths when talking in private to avoid causing problems.
Why do people think Baines himself won't be more annoyed at his interview being used in this way than with anything the manager said. He didn't even raise it again. It was raised by the journalist

I'm aware of that mate, I spent many years 'in' the confines & dusty catacombs of that particular 'industry'...so yes, that's as maybe, but here's the thing...

...a headline without the body content is what it is, it's simply a 'shout' and a bit of a flag wave really...it's a big, eff-off 'Coooey - LOOK AT ME'.

But there IS content here and the source is an interesting/appealing one because of who it is; namely a well-respected, long-serving, popular and well-liked pro, one who is not renowned for boat-rocking or palaver. He is also a player - if you recall, sure you do - who could have 'offed' on us numerous times if he so wished. Didn't...and that's why a stir has been caused IMO. In short - the boy's a blue...

Whatever slant people take on the comments is up to them, and it's also irrelevant as to what the true meaning or motivation was behind them now as well because it's out there now innits... it's carrion to be picked at, chewed over & spat toward the manager.

So, after viewing the presser I feel he handled it appallingly. He could have done so much better with it.

My view on the comments, for what it's worth, is that they're very honest and very telling. I also expect that - yes - LEIGHTON has indeed apologised for them but only in the sense that they - so to speak - gained legs and have become a 'thing'.

On the flip-side I would also imagine he has integrity enough to stand by every word he has said because, clearly, that's how he feels.

And he's not the only one.

The ECHO have (finally) found their albondigas and reacted to this (via the article this avvy) because RM has questioned, oddly, the source and the bend of their copy. Foolish indeed because all is provable, as would be the context I feel.

Trying times indeed for BOB and he's done himself no favours at all this morning.

I now wouldn't be remotely surprised to see him jibbed sooner rather than later. His time, after the last few days, seems very borrowed indeed.

Still, stranger things an' all that...

#ONWARD

Quite. I am reasonably sure the players dont come in every morning with foam hands and Wembley T shirts on either.

Mate I'm buzzing. Already outside Wembley waiting for the team bus to arrive.

This is the biggest occasion since '95, 2 semi finals in one season.

Oh my goddddd!!! Martinez is taking us to the promised land.
