the time to get rid of martinez is now. we still have a good chance of winning something and we're not going to do it with him in charge. time to get the players and fans back onside and restore some positivity. get rid now and put big dunc, sheeds and unsy in charge until the summer.

The way in which he wants us to play is almost robotic, the same system, same way of playing.

Plan A is the only way playing, and even if it's not working it's because we're not executing the plan properly. In Martinez mindset that doesn't represent a requirement to change the method in his approach. The problem is, we have now become so robotic that there isn't any emotion within team performances. No passion or players getting up for games because we're always in this 'calm plan A will work mindset'.
I remember listening to some of the fan interviews he did when he first started. I tried to suppress my mild alarm at the time over his insistence that he'd never change his ways, that possession was the most important thing in football and trumped everything else. His father had instilled that in him, if I remember correctly.

By the time his first season was over, I'd decided he was right all along and I was daft for having concerns.

But gradually, over the past two seasons, that initial doubt has been knocking on the door.

Now it seems perfectly evident that the only way he's going to succeed is to drop that dogmatic approach. But especially given it's apparently 'the family way,' I just can't see it.

Headlines are generally a synopsis of the article designed to attract attention.

They may not have been exact quotes but I don't think they strayed too far from the spirit of the quotes.

Maybe bobby didn't read the full article
They really did. Apart from the word 'chemistry' the tone and meaning were nothing like what he said

The press have clearly been criticised. They are defending themselves so how can they not have been.
We've been told Baines apologised but it was in answer to a question. A statement hasn't been volunteered about the situation.
And again why should Baines put himself in the firing line by blaming the press. He's a good professional. He won't have wanted the attention this has brought.

...genuinely wouldn't say they're 'defending' themselves mate. I'd suggest they we're clarifying...

...their reporting - via RM's comments - has been questioned, and they've taken the quite unusual step of trying to set that straight, again, odd really given how 'impartial (pfff....)' and dumbed-down the ECHO have been thus far on all things RM and EFC...

It's not fans who move managers, the real power - grim as it is- lies with the news outlets and if they choose (or are guided???) to go for throat then that's what'll happen...

I'd say they're just above waist-height and climbing now...

Martinez seems to struggle to get his midfield to link with the striker properly, everything gets snuffed out to easily by the opposition but the frustrating thing is he doesn't change the system when we can all see this

Never want to see a team dump a game but if they did it on sat to show support to Baines.....then who am I to argue.

It seems Bobby likes to hold a grudge for a long time well good luck walking past the away fans.

But they're not doing this for Baines sake. So it is defensive.
I'd agree on a personal level he may have been daft taking them on in this way. But as I've said I don't think he's said anything as a way to undermine Baines. When the press began to imply there was more to his quotes they put him in the firing line. I really doubt that's what he wanted

I think it's fine to be anti Martinez but why make the press your ally. They'll be back to selling our players soon enough
It's nothing to do with making the press an ally; the issues are quite separate and in general I have a pretty high level of disdain for the press.

The issue at hand though is that I feel Baines has been treated harshly; not by the press as you may suggest, but rather by Martinez.

I won't allow an overriding perspective of something, someone or a group (in this case the press) be it positive or negative blind me. Do you?

Martinez claimed baines was misquoted or taken out of context and is thus blaming the media.

They have published the full quotes to defend against this lie and show they quoted him exactly and completely
Subtly he may, but I was clear by the use of 'openly criticise' and 'openly refer'. Yes he may place some blame at the door be it thinly cloaked.

However, in my humble opinion it was a far more open shot at Baines for what he perceived as allowing himself to be so easily misinterpreted.

Or does he just not like what he said? Either way, the blame was primarily towards Leighton.

So, Leighton Baines is the latest player in the Roberto Martinez blame game.

Referees, injury time, bad luck. All to blame for Everton’s struggles this season, according to our manager.

Martinez, obviously, is doing a sterling job as Everton continue to build and grow and develop. The fact we are in the bottom half of the Premier League table is down to outside factors.

And no doubt the Wembley pitch will be too green should Everton fail to beat West Ham or Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final on April 23.

If it wasn’t for pesky officials, terrible luck and the unfair comments of Baines, Everton would have won the title long ago.

With so many things going wrong at Goodison Park this season, one has to wonder whether it really is down to misfortune and being cheated out of games – are Everton really victims of the biggest footballing injustice the world has ever seen?

  • With that in mind, just who, or what, is really to blame for Everton’s dismal run?
  • Who or what is to blame for Everton sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table?
  • Who or what is to blame for Everton being closer to the relegation zone than the top four?
  • Who or what is to blame for the fact that, in the last SIX months, Everton have just one Premier League win against sides not currently in the bottom three?
  • Who or what is to blame for ruining the Goodison fortress?
  • Who or what is to blame for the EIGHT home defeats this season?
  • Who or what is to blame for the fact the current side is closing in on the worst home record in Everton history?
  • Who or what is to blame for Everton holding one of the worst home records in Europe?
  • Who or what is to blame for the 28 goals conceded on our own turf?
  • Who or what was to blame for the FOUR goals we let in at home to Stoke?
  • Who or what was to blame for the horrendous substitution and tactical switch which saw Everton throw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 at home to West Ham in the final 12 minutes?
  • Who or what is to blame for the fact Everton season-ticket holders have paid over £100 per home win this season?
  • Who or what is to blame for the enjoyment of matchday being ripped out of an entire fanbase?
  • Who or what is to blame for making ‘going the game’ a chore?
  • Who or what is to blame for the toxic atmosphere that befalls the majority of Everton home matches?
  • Who or what is to blame for the fact Everton play with ‘fear and doubt’ at home?
  • Who or what is to blame for some supporters leaving the majority of matches early this season?
  • Who or what is to blame for ruining our weekends?
  • Who or what is to blame for Everton’s constant capitulations this season?

  • Who or what is to blame for the fact Everton have dropped 45 points from winning positions under Martinez?
  • Who or what is to blame for the fact a poor West Bromwich Albion side are above us?
  • Who or what is to blame for Everton’s inabilility to defend set-pieces for the majority of the season?
  • Who or what is to blame for Tim Howard starting every game in the first part of the campaign despite the fact he continued to cost the team points?
  • Who or what is to blame for the club’s 25-goal striker wanting to leave in the summer because the club can’t offer him Champions League football?
  • Who or what is to blame for the fact John Stones has gone from one of the best young centre backs in Europe to now looking like a liability in the Everton backline?
  • Who or what is to blame for the fact Everton seemingly can’t function in the absence of a 35-year-old defensive midfielder?
  • Who or what is to blame for the imbalance in the first-team and the disjointed performances of the last two seasons?
  • Who or what is to blame for the fact Everton only have one way of playing and no Plan B?
  • Who or what is to blame for the fact the side lacks chemistry, as pointed out by Baines?
  • Who or what is to blame for the low morale engulfing the club at present?
  • Who or what is to blame for the fact Everton have become this season’s laughing stock?
  • Who or what is to blame for Martinez’s inability to learn from his mistakes?
  • Who or what is to blame for Martinez’s refusal to take responsibility for his team’s failings?
  • Who or what is to blame for all of the doom and gloom despite the fact we are entering a new era thanks to Farhad Moshiri’s investment?

No. And I certainly don't allow my feelings about Martinez to effect how I analyse any given situation
