Every manager around would say they can get better results with top players but he has top players now and is not doing enough with them. It's the system thing that worries me. I just don't see it working ever in the PL and if Pep thinks he can do the same at City then he's in for a major shock. But then again Pep will have the sense to adapt rather than flog a dead horse.

Agreed. Id just simply like to see him have the opportunity this summer and see what happens.

Im not saying extend his contract or anything but just would like to see the results of 3 years work from him and my time watching and waiting.

Thats comparing Martinez to Moyes which im not doing. Im comparing his expenditure to the rest of the league.

But by doing that you have to do the same with Moyes.... Moyes spent less, on transfers and wages. Am not saying compare both tenures, my point is that maybe it shows the fortitude of the manager to get a squad to achieve more then they should.

Martinez isn't that man. he couldn't get a dog to sit - let alone get his players to run through brick walls for him.

But you have to look at a range of things Zat

Barkley probably underpaid relative to if he moved clubs
Stones and Coleman the same
And many more. We have had a pay structure for years

while other clubs overpay we get value for money

If Barkley is on 40k and delph is on 80k at city does that mean delph is twice the player Barkley is??

I agree with that and we can both spin in either way cant we?

But generally a good barometer for league position has been the wages table....

1. Read the interview as it is plain you haven't done so or else you'd know exactly how the itnerview went, and no he wouldn't have been sacked in any other line of work, for one - so wrong its laughable
2, they have up until this point of the season seriously overperformed and for a manager whose remit would have been to kepe them in the league to have achieved that aim by early March was a job well done, us on the other hand - well LOL
we are above 9th on our wage bill, and below 9th on our league position, but don't let a little thing like facts get in the way.
3. so we score its Martinez tactics, we concede and its players, ok mate, that sunds fair LOL, ignore the sub that changed the entire game, also ignore the formation change we did which lef to the game turning out the way it did though

1-- i never said he would be sacked did i?

His performances tell a different story though.

the rest of your post i cant be bothered to read tbh.

think you need to have a lie down.

Likewise.

1: Baines spoke to the press. His words were somewhat misinterpreted and he apologised to the group for putting himself a position where this could happen.

Absolutely spot on for me that. If Baines had done this in another job he would be facing disciplinary action.

2: Martinez simply fielded all the questions and said that we shouldnt just be focusing on the Cup but also the league.

Correct, yet heads have been turned perhaps and Watford actually have had a worse set of results than us after their semi but their manager hasnt been villified.

3-- Put into context, we have lost to Man Utd, Arsenal and were very unlucky against West Ham. Hardly the stuff of nightmares.

I feel its just another excuse by some to make a mountain out of a molehill and actually becoming really boring now which i think reflects more on people themselves than the actual events at the club.

When you have posters posting Martinez comments in every different thread here it also makes it hard to read through the constant nonsense and i dont envy the mods having to go through it all due to the same posters off topic remarks.

Tiring really...

....so much wrong with this.

The manager also said we are phenomenal, that gareth barry is one of the best english players ever, he also said we don't have a problem defending and defending crosses.

He talks out of his hoop mate. What Baines said is clear for all to see - people are moaning the echo changed the headline slightly - however what he said he said.

Martinez's reply yesterday smacks of desperation and face saving because he can't be seen to be questioned by a senior player.

Funnily though, Lukaku says he wants to go and play in the CL, thats sound - player questions chemistry and an apology is served. Convenient

I think lukaku just wants a pay rise to be honest. Thsts based on the opposite quotes from him the week prior saying how happy he was.

What other issues are there? He ignores players hes dropped- which I don't necessarily have beef with, although he could handle it better, and we leak goals like a football-hole sized sieve, which I have major issue with- that's on him. hope your have a stress free weekend- and Everton contribute to that!
There's a big problem going back a long time which was eluded to in a different thread. We have not been a club geared for success on any level. And it's not just cash, it seems to be an inferiority complex that you can see in how we anticipate failure.
A manager won't change that. Not on his own.
For a start we need to decide what we are. We've been the pragmatic runners up and it didn't suit us. So what about a return to the School Of Science. It won't guarantee titles but at least we'll know what we're about and that will stop the fear of failure that to my mind guarantees no success.
It will need more balance to this squad. If a couple of senior players are out it has too much impact. We need to see younger players coming through who know what's expected. And we need a spine who know what the club's about and would rather be here than anywhere else.
I can see signs that manager and board are now thinking about the future in this way.
My worry with Martinez has always been that he'll try to force it and not use what he has to keep confidence levels up. But if that's true then we may have been through the worst of it and the positive side is now that we have players who know how to use the ball and need the confidence to start winning regularly.
One way of illustrating the issues is there in what Leighton said. They don't move off the ball like they're expecting things to click. It's been like that for a long time. I don't think managers can do much to change that unless there's a confidence throughout the club.
And hope you have good weekend too. Mine will just be work and Everton so god help me

I think lukaku just wants a pay rise to be honest. Thsts based on the opposite quotes from him the week prior saying how happy he was.

Course he is happy, he is playing week in week out. Don't be fooled, he isn't after a pay rise, he left a team he supported to play week in week out, he will leave us to play in the champions league and win trophies.

He holds no loyalty to us, thats footballers these days - even local players to a degree don't stay loyal.

If we offer him 200K a week, and a team playing in the CL comes in challenging for the league - he won't stay. the lad is ambitious.
