So he'll happily walk away, giving up a 3m per year wage, to avoid getting then sack and a payout, with no job offer on the horizon.
I see.
I would proffer that at the level of 3M a year there is a severance, change of ownership, continuity of responsibilities clause in his contract that would include him leaving because his position was untenable given board and fan support. The current thing seems to be that he continues to get paid for a year while he finds another job. If you think you can get a job quickly then you can actually 'double dip' on salary too.
As to where he might go, its a managerial merry go round!
I would imagine any of the mid table clubs who flirted with relegation this year might be interested, any of the championship promotees or a Europa league level european club.
Whether he would be successful at any of these (especially in the EPL) is debatable given that defense and grinding outt points is not his forte.

It's the performances which are the stuff of nightmares, the last two games have been two of the worst performances I've seen from us. Our opponents didn't have to get out of first gear in either, our players body language is appalling and they aren't even willing to battle for the shirt anymore. Zat is looking at things in a far too black and white way, literally just looking at the score line and the opponent and going "ah well, it could have been worse". No, it's not like that at all

I can see how it may come across like that from me but i also agree that the last two games were alot different to chelsea and even Wham.

The thing is that ive taken a step back, reminded myself where i thought we would finish and why and now am just looking at it as though the games are over and we lost them BUT no shame losing to Utd and Arsenal on paper.

Lets get behind the manager and team, push up the league and win the cup...rather than just focusing on negativity.

Yeah I'd hope he'd see that as his job but unlikely to occur.
Different situation for me to Wigan in that they were really not naturally a top flight team and getting them back there and staying there was not something a manager could realistically promise without major commitment from the chairman.
I think getting us back up would be something he'd accept was not his forte and we'd see soundbites about staying then mutually agreed changes.
But in reality he'd be gone well before.
Again, you're probably right and the whole relegation scenario is overly conjectural... (well at least I hope it is!)

My own wish is that Martinez gets a fair amount of money in the summer which would equate to expectations rising to correlate with the fact that he isnt underperforming in the league by much at the moment based on investment.
Don't think it needs too much money myself but I think they'll be happy to look at what he wants to bring in based on how the squad currently looks in the market. May not be him getting the best out of them but our record generally in the transfer market has been decent for a long time and they'll be trusting more than Martinez in investing enough at the moment

Resources not that limited - spent money on Lukaku, McCarthy, Mori, Niasse

The team he inherited was solid for years. Was just missing a goalscorer. He did really well to bring in Lukaku. But has neglected defence and isn't adaptable in his style

He's made some good signings, built a strong squad. But morale is clearly at a low

For me,

Right Wing -- Deulofeu/ Lennon
LCB -- Mori
DM -- McCarthy
CF -- Lukaku / Niasse (jury still out)

Thats it really other than stopgaps and cheap signings...

Lukaku- fair enough top class
Del - unproven to a certain degree. Why is he benched?
Lennon - decent hardly a world beater
Mori - unproven
Niasse - unproven but early signs not encouraging
McCarthy - I rate him but not everyone does
Cleverly, Mcgeady, kone, Alcatraz - no thanks

That's hardly a stellar transfer record

Not so mate. Been supporting us since the 60's so I need anyone to be telling me how to do that thanks. Yes I want us to win the cup (though personally think there's next to zero chance with this fool in charge.) Do I relish the thought of Martinez feeling smug and happy at the end of this season? You might fella, but not me. I want him gone and have been saying so since December 2014.

Wanting him gone should not equate to not wanting to see him as happy as the rest of us if we lift the Cup.

You would be sitting seething about Roberto because it is a "horrible thought" him looking happy on the Wembley pitch.

It would be a day of mixed emotions for you.

Would you go out and watch the open top buss tour if we do happen to land the Cup?

I've listed these already Zat.

You say that every part of the squad where he spent money has improved.

Show me

Where he has spent tangible money:

Mori
Lukaku
McCarthy

and to a lesser extent Deulofeu and Lennon (under £5mil each) for the same squad position. The only £5mil+ signing hes signed who has been a dud is kone.

Again, you're probably right and the whole relegation scenario is overly conjectural... (well at least I hope it is!)
Never gonna happen in my lifetime I reckon. Which may not be that reassuring.
Whatever else Everton can't do, they do survival really well. Which is part of the problem

Is it right to find the term 'EPL' to refer to the premier league as irritating? I think it's pretty widespread though amongst foreign football followers - particularly in the U.S.? Do other national leagues get the same treatment - eg Spain as 'the SLL' or Italy's 'ISA'? :)

Ah so you're changing it now

Give me tangible money and I can sign 11 top players

Money doesn't make the manager

Zat - i like debating with you mate - don't take much offence!

You know you mention the wage and spend of the club dictates where we should be... do you know where the club targets each year to be based on budgets and income from the league (i found this recently ill dig it out again)? Top 7, therefor if thats the case then the club has set a minimum target which martinez has failed to achieve 2 years running. Would you agree?

While income from the league isn't probably seen as a major factor, the fact we budget and set targets for a position should be something that Martinez is judged by.

If he has been told top 7 by the board and is hitting 11th again then of course they will look for another manager.

however if another manager comes in and is being given a task to overachieve by a few places then would they take the job?

See mate it is hard to have that attitude when you can't really win any games of note.

Because that is the thing which a lot of people don't mention, if we had won 9 games so far and they were a mixed bunch, then ok. The fact that over half of our wins (5 out of 9) came against what is essentially now Championship teams, and at least 2 others were technically in the bottom three when we played them, then it is appauling results in the grand scheme of things. If we had a west ham, arsenal,city,2 villa, newcastle, stoke, west brom , chelsea as the results, then it would show that we can actually turn up and beat a team when we really want to. Beating championship teams shows we are barely good enough to be even in this league, MASSIVE difference in what is actually happenening here.
