He´s not a winner. He wants to play like Barcelona but Barcelona win. Nobody would want to pay like Barcelona if they didn´t win. He doesn´t worry about conceding goals therefore his players don´t worry about conceding goals. He prefers to have John Stones doing Cruyff turns on the edge of the six yard box than to teach him how to defend properly. It´s style before substance. He plays Gareth Barry every week because his experience is vital which in reality translates into I don´t know how to defend but he does so he´ll cover my arse. Spurs can put two kids like Dier and Dele Alli in the centre of their midfield and they know what they´re supposed to be doing because they have been coached properly. Our players don´t know what they´re supposed to be doing defensively because the manager doesn´t know what to do defensively. As long as things are going well in a game everything is fine but as soon as a team puts us under pressure or something goes wrong we fold because players don´t know their roles and because there are no consequences for failure. You´ll still be picked next week. He´s technically inept and wants to be Mr. nice guy. Nice guys finish last and that´s where we´re heading with him.

Very well put!

Nice post mate and spot on

How long have we needed to fix that for though? Getting on for two years now? He's never going to fix it. A serious manager would have by now
Probably like most here.I'm drawn to hoping he'll get it right, when we play well,we play well. But it keeps for me coming back to the fact that with the players we have there is no way with less than 10 games to go we are 12th.He comes across as the quintessential Mr Nice Guy,but you begin to wonder. He will not (or at least has not)address the problems we have from crosses in open play and dead ball situations.Maybe there is a mini dictator lurking somewhere inside him but,and I hate to bring up the W word but it was a problem that plagued him at his last club.

I'm sure that Rom is annoyed that his efforts will probably count for nothing but I think that he's a team player. We've conceded lots of goals from corners and he's one of our best players in the air and he has an important role in helping to defend them.
Only if they are getting drilled on being better at crosses. If they are and they are simply ignoring instructions then Bobby has lost them and needs to go. If they are not getting drilled then it can't be the players fault.
If we go down the blaming players route why would we need a manager? If it's always something else at fault why do we need one at all. The buck has to stop somewhere. He coaches them all week, sets tactics and picks team. Then there are decisions he makes during a game. All of these are down to the manager and the manager alone. He wanted total control of the playing side of the club and he got it. It's now his fault if it's not working.

Wigan spent eight seasons in the Premier League – The final four were under Martinez. Their finishes, and point total were:-

Year Pos Pts
05-06 10 51
06-07 17 38
07-08 14 40
08-09 11 45
09-10 16 36
10-11 16 42
11-12 15 43
12-13 18 36

Look at the decline from when he took over.

If anything, after four full seasons in the premier league, Wigan were in a much better position to survive when he started. He somehow took them from almost mid-table obscurity, to relegation candidates every season. His best season was the dizzy heights of 15th – a position they bettered on three occasions before he got there. His brand of football cost Wigan their premier league status. This is undeniable. On the other hand, he did have that great cup run.

If he made Wigan worse, how can he make Everton better?
Some season to stay up with 36 points! If they'd gone that year they'd have never won the Cup and we'd have Guardiola now.

Hmmmm.....

It’s easy to talk, especially when you’ve won a game.

“When we were 11 against 11, we were the better team and scored the goal to go ahead. Then we had to change things tactically and with 10 men you wouldn’t have seen a difference – it was like we had the extra man.

“Then we scored another goal from open play and controlled the game completely and never got done on crosses in that period.

“It’s more that we felt we had something to lose. Winning the penalty was a massive high but then missing it was an emotional low, and all of a sudden we gave West Ham momentum that unfortunately they got a big reward from.

“It’s not like they bombarded the box. They had two crosses and scored two goals, that’s bad defending rather than having a (specific) weakness.

“For the first 78 minutes we were defending extremely well. We scored 14 goals and conceded only two in the previous six games, and in anyone’s eyes that a well-balanced team and s good defensive display.”
