Probably both, as he averaged the same amount of points through his 11 year stint with us, getting us constant top 7 in his last 5-6 years. However:Great achievement.
He also did it with the lowest points tally ever didn't he?
Does it say a lot about him or the league that year?
The lad just proved that you were wrong about saying that.Agreed mate but I just think there are far more mitigating factors than "he's a bad manager".
Would Jose Mou done a better job? Probably. But this is the same Jose who shows no faith in youth and had a star studded Chelsea side languishing early season. Is he a bad manager? Of course not. Is he better than RM? Of course he is. But Jose has had money to invest in winners. When has Martinez had that?
With the exception of the heralded Leicester, no one gets top 4 or anywhere near without spending buckets. So why would RM be any different?
He's not any different to anyone, but to say he's done well is beyond laughable. First season - brilliant, we were all buzzing. Second season - meh league, meh cups, Europa was our focus it would seem (and we bottled that massively, but let's not that get in the way of judging Martinez, eh?), and we just thought, guessed for a second, we'd do better this season given the fact we have no Europa to 'worry' about.
Well this turned out great - least wins at home in our WHOLE history, most goals conceded at home, shockingly bad in nearly every department and we've only won against relegation fodder.
You use Mourinho as an example. Let's keep with that for a bit. Mourinho had a fantastic season last year, champions and all. Then this year he flopped, and got fired. Martinez had a fantastic first season, then was kinda meh, and now he's massively flopping... and people want to keep him and give him money?
