There are many differences between finishing 5th and midtable, but to name a few:

(1) attract better calibre of players
(2) instil more confidence in existing squad that team is progressing
(3) give the fans a feeling that we're capable of competing with the best teams in the league
(4) extra £6m would be nice

I literally don't know what you're talking about.
Finishing 5th doesn't attract players, big wages do. And do Leicester supporters think they had to finish top 5 last year to think they could compete this season? If they did they've been happily surprised. They and West Ham prove you don't have to have a

Stop this David.

Here's a scenario I've just made up (bit of fun, fume at it if you have to).

The Everton board are rocked by the 14/15 season. They have huge talents like Barkley and Stones and the premier league is finally in a state of open turmoil after Ferguson's resignation and Ciry keeping a big side out the top 4 every year. Despite this we are in a relegation battle and finish bottom half. Kenwright has watched Moyes control everything for 11 years on a low bet spend, now suddenly players aren't happy and are making it vocal, 30 mill was spent on a striker and we went backwards.

Kenwright being the man he is though decides to give Roberto the benefit of the doubt. The 15/16 season starts but the old habits creep in. There's fan discontent at the board that Roberto's failings are antagonising, there's fan discontent at the manager in unprecedented never before seen levels, we're still bottom half despite a number of new players coming in. The defence is getting worse and player unrest is in the air again.

Kenwright is watching all this in shock but is also working on the investment deal with Moshiri. Can he really hand over Everton to this new combo of manager and owner?

Not knowing what to do he puts in a phonecall to his best friend in football. They never stopped talking. 'David what do I do?'. Suddenly Moyes is available though. The job at Villa, turned down. West Ham, turned down. Swansea, turned down. Sunderland, turned down. Newcastle, turned down. Moyes openly admits though that he's turning down offers from Europe as he eyes a return to the premier league, but at what club? Baines Jags Mirallas are on the phone to him 'what's happened to our form gaffer'. And then in a few rare to interviews he starts dropping subtle references 'Everton would be a great club to go back to'.

Moshiri wants a manager popular with the fans to cement his new ownership and restore solid league form. He's no expert in managerial hiring from his time at Arsenal so leaves it to Bill.

He makes one final call on the last day of the 15/16 season after an embarassing finish of 13th. 'Please come home David', 'Aye Chairman'.

Think about it. Think about it. It could happen.
I'd rather contract syphilis of the eyes than read that again.

Moyes association with us has ended and he burnt his bridges in spectacular fashion the condescending shobgite.

They do. D'you think the likes of Coventry and Bolton had squads as good as ours during Moyes' time in charge? Moyes had a very tidy squad to work with shortly after he arrived.

Let's not rewrite history and suggest he basically struggled along with half a dozen good professionals and a load of ale house players. He had a good enough squad to compete for top half of the table almost from the outset....broke the club transfer record on numerous occasions, and paid decent wages that attracted decent players.

The ghost of Christmas past? I think Charles Dickens beat you to this story.

Definitely not Coventry because they weren't in the Premier League mate

Hang on no, Moyes finished 4th with that squad. Did any of those other teams manage anything close to that with a squad as poor as ours? Tell you what, I'd be very interested to put Martinez in charge of the 04/05 squad and see how many points he'd amass. My guess wouldn't be 61

haha quality

When did Martinez turn into Brendan Rodgers? Can we pinpoint it? I can't actually believe the amount of nonsense that comes out of the man's mouth these days. Just shut up ffs

Players want big wages, sure, but if they are ambitious they want to join a club making progress, not stagnating in the mid-table spots.

Not sure what you're trying to prove here, we should hope we just have a random one off great season?

He achieved 4th with Marcus Bent as our main striker man.

Try and re- write history all you want, but it just makes you look a bit daft imo

The defence got the CL spot. We weren't exactly prodigious going forward and didn't need to be.

As said, 61 points. Leicester are about there now and have 10 games in hand.
