I disagree here.
We have leaders.
We need more winners though.
That's what the cash this summer should be used for.

I'd have Rooney back in a heartbeat. Honestly.

United were crap last night but that's exactly the type of game - for all the stick he gets - he would have dragged them through.

Honestly, all kidding aside, when you are "launching defenses" (no pun intended) I think you know you are in a bit of trouble?

Martinez launches defence of Everton reign

Roberto Martinez has moved to justify his reasons over why he believes his reign as Everton manager has not been disappointing.

The Spaniard has come in for criticism from Everton fans over the past 18 months as a talented first team squad continues to underperform.

Following last Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to West Ham United, Martinez’s time as Toffees manager has been closely scrutinised by the national media, with journalists finally calling into question his record on Merseyside.

However, the former Wigan Athletic manager defended his two-and-a-half year spell as Blues boss ahead of the weekend FA Cup clash with Chelsea.

Asked whether he was concerned about his future at Goodison Park, he replied: “As a manager, you cannot worry.

“The moment that you worry for yourself, you are not a good manager.

“A manager needs to worry about his 23 or 24 players, allow them to enjoy their football and allow them to enjoy their position in the team, while giving them direction.

“If I was a new manager in the Premier League, maybe I would be worried. I’ve been very fortunate. I’ve been managing for 10 years, seven of those consistently in the Premier League.

“It takes a brave journalist to defend a manager who has lost 3-2 in the last 12 minutes.

“To say: ‘No, no. With this man, look at the record of building up a football club, and what he had to cope with.’

“It’s one of the toughest jobs to get new players winning football games, to create something, and it’s been smoothly done.

“The first season -72 points. The second season, we went into Europe. This season, we reached the semi-finals of the League Cup.

“Consistently, this team is starting to cope with the expectations of doing something good in the cups. That’s difficult.

“I’m excited about the future of Everton.”

Yes mate he's feeling the pressure but Martinez isn't the one who said:

'Use the headline LAUNCH DEFENCE' is he...

Speaking from somebody who works in the industry that is just a headline that is catchy and draws the readers attention...

haha he chats scutter does Bobby. Once you spend most of your time defending yourself it's hard to get away from it. Results is the only thing that can save Bobby now not words.

He's said nothing wrong at all in that interview (bar the thing about Joe Allen).

Time to back it up with results though, as we did last time after setbacks this season (namely Stoke and City)

No doubt. Just seems he is defending himself a lot the last few days. The tone is changing. Clearly he is hoping for Mr Moshiri's "vote of confidence" soon.

Yeh I think he waffled in the presser mate.

That interview though I do think he came out and defended himself and I'm completely fine with that if he can now back it up with a reaction.

He made a massive error the other day though and the worry is he hasn't seen that - though again I don't blame him for not admitting his mistake in the media.

He has at least taken responsibility though and said things need to be better. It's not his fault if fans chose to ignore that.

Check your waffle filter mate, it's on the blink.

No it's not.

I said in the presser yesterday he was talking crap.

That interview is less so. He admitted responsibility and said things need to be better. What do you expect, him to come out and tell us what tactics he's going to use?

No mate, I think you are underestimating a Captains role. Having leaders and organisers on the field can make a real difference.

A snippet from Scholes last night - ""When we were coming through as players we had great examples in (Bryan) Robson, (Roy) Keane, (Paul) Ince and (Steve) Bruce setting standards, and when we came through we had to live up the standards and hopefully take the club on."

So can having a decent manager like.

Having leaders is important but whether they are captain or not isn't. Captain is just an armband. We didn't seem to lack leaders during Moyes' reign.

I agree on the point of not admitting the mistake but only for the reason that it could be construed as blaming Niasse which wouldn't be fair

No he didn't. He waffled that he's doing a great job that no-one can see. He didn't take responsibility for anything, he thinks he's been an utter success.

I just don't expect any manager to come out and say 'yes I got it totally wrong'. He should admit that he could have done things differently etc but I'd rather just see a reaction in our next game...

My worry is that he does react, but after another 4 or 5 games he then makes a similar mistake and we're back to square one.
