Two semi finals on one season, we were robbed in the other semi due to crap refs.
So we have a cup manager and Moyes was a league manager always on the verge of top 4 but isn't cups better then finishing 4th.
Martinez is like the opposite of Moyes in so many ways.

And yet when he takes a leaf out of Moyes' book he's an infinitely better one. He's shown he can do it, it's now just doing it consistently

Oh god just be happy for once

See? You can't even mention one of berto's negative excuses when we've won...Ok, we won. But some of us haven't forgotten.

So, where was the evidence (That the fans give the players the willies at home) yesterday? It was nowhere. Which kinda blows berto's garbage excuse out of the water, doesn't it?

Call me a moanin' arse all you like, but I wasn't the one laying the blame for our cack home form on the fans. At least I'm consistent. I'm being told that I'm fickle if I say nowt after we win. Not much evidence of that neither, is there?

You'd think I was moaning for the sake of it. As I've said, I didn't blame the fans. :coffee: Anyone from the pro-martinez brigade gonna praise the supporters because I haven't seen one of them do so, or recant their mistaken edict.

I have to recant on my views about martinez because we won, but they get a free pass for blaming our home support (with no evidence)?

Nah. Yous are not on, I'm afraid.

The truth seems a bit inconvenient for some. That truth is berto's idea about our home form is utter krappenscheisse

Thats the key, doing it in one off games is all well and good, but to do anything in the league we need to make that a part of the way we always play, its all about consistancy, still don't think he can or more importantly wants to do that though but we are going to a semi, great chance at lifting the first trophy in donkeys years, evaluate at the end of the season based on what happens going forwards

Wigan fans did say he gives you one great game amongst a load of terrible ones.....

What impressed me last night was the way he went about the team. We matched Chelsea in every department, fought then for the result and took advantage of our centre forward to play to his strengths. It was a game we could have easily conceded and instead we have as good as we got. That was great management in my eyes, and it shows Martinez has some capability.

The sad thing is that fight we had would have us in a title race if it transferred to league form.

Lots of analysis going on here. Just wondering what happened to enjoying the moment.

To my mind there was one big difference between yesterday and West Ham. Serendipity.

One week a penalty miss from a player who has looked brilliant all game. Manager is a disgrace.
Next week same player looks tired and frustrated, scores a wonder goal. Manager got it right.
Just wondering how those fans who said it was unacceptable to lose would have reacted if that Costa chance had bobbled in instead of wide.
No room for serendipity at Goodison it seems from some players and some fans but if we embrace it we'll be brilliant

The fans got behind the team and were great yesterday, it hasn't been like that all season though.

All the posts I've seen from people on here mentioning the support at the ground haven't been blaming our results solely on the fans. They've been implying it puts more pressure on the players and doesn't help them play their best football when they feel the crowd is waiting to jump on their backs.

The main factor in our bad results at home is RM, it falls on him and that's how it should be, he picks the players and sets up the team. All people have ever said is the crowd don't always make it easy for the players when they're not getting behind the team in some games.

They were magnificent yesterday and the team played well. If anything yesterdays result shows what the team can do when the fans and players get behind each other.

You don't have to recant your views on RM just because we won a match.

People have said it's not always easy for the players to play their best football when the crowd isn't always behind them. That's totally different from blaming our results at home purely on the home support. Saying it doesn't help the team at times is a valid point.

No, it's understandable the fans were supportive, given it was a quarter-final against the former/defending league champions, and the team was set up to MATCH them, at the very least.

What they don't appreciate is the side not having much of an idea against the likes of watford, norwich, palace etc at home, and being blamed for the player's & manager's shortcomings by saying so.

All about fine margins in football and you need luck on your side sometimes, often regardless of wether you've set the team up well or not.

You can imagine the metldown on here if Costa had scored and we'd gone on to lose, despite RM getting praise today. That's why I try to judge him on how he's set the team up, did he gives us the best 'chance' of winning. Sometimes you need luck on your side.

Hello lads I'm back from my ASBO ban in this thread and was wondering where 80% of the regular posters on here have gone?

Can they please let us know that they're OK before I tag them in to check on their wellbeing.

Everton won an important game lads, this thread isn't off limits to you in such circumstances.

Present and still overwhelmingly correct.
