He failed last season.....no doubt.

The abiding memory of last season is Black December and the early months of 2015.

The most awful football I have watched at The Park in many a day......with results to match.

But that was then......this is now.

This season is not ŷet over so he cannot ŷet be judged a failure......but the football has at least been entertaining and exciting.

Win the Cup and he enters the Hall of Fame.

Get us firing in league and we make next season's Europa League it would be hard to call it failure.

As I've said, 7th and FA Cup win.

If we win the fa cup and finish in positions 8-12 will this be regarded as a good season. Personally speaking a trophy would be amazing, but our league form had been shambolic. I'm torn with Martinez, I value his beliefs but I just want to shake the man every time he opens his mouth. We have underachieved massively when you look at the league table.

Maybe so. However, regardless of the league position, we shouldn't underestimate the branding exercise this manager has done with the club.

I'm sure the owners haven't lost sight of the fact that the British football industry readily identify Everton with an exciting brand of football, based around a core of excellent young talent who are coveted by all other clubs. That's a package that people in business can readily buy into...and is likely to have paid dividends already by helping persuade outsiders that their incoming investment is worthwhile, stadium in place or not.

A plan for longevity and the ambition to create a dynasty will appeal to a new major shareholder fresh out of involvement with Arsenal. That requires stability at all levels.

Oh Martinez got Moshiri to buy Everton now did he.

Is there anything this manager can't do, he's just Boss.

Our form's been decent enough bar the odd blip/red card for a while now. A good few decent defensive performances combined with goals at the other end.

Calls to sack the manager at this point are mental and gladly only coming from a small and loud minority.

I wouldn't want to be in his position in trying to deal with the derby falling a few days before the semi. That derby couldn't have come at a worse time. We can't throw it for a number of reasons, but we can't afford to gamble with the semi final.

We win the cup, Martinez and this team go down in Everton history. Simples. Anyone who would quibble with that is a complete kopite. We haven't won a bean in over 20 years! The real debates arise if we get knocked out in the semi or lose the final. If that happens, do we take the manner of the defeat into account or do we conclude that two seasons outside the top 5 with no cups isn't good enough?

What if we win the cup and lose every league game and the unconceiveable happens that Newcastle Sunderland win enough points to pass us out and we get relegated. Martinez will go down in history then.

Not gonn happen obviously but league position should be the main thing when judging this team.
