Moyes basically did a SAF and left us with a bunch of players who werent good enough and only able to play percentage football. If not for Martinez i dread to think where we would be now in terms of players...

Certainly Barkley and Stones wouldnt have been trusted so much and Lukaku and deulofeu wouldnt have signed.

In an ideal world we need an 'inbetween' of Moyes & Martinez. Good at the back, stingey with possession, ace going forward and great on the break.

Does he exist? Probably - who is he?

I definitely think some managers have more of an eye on their own legacy rather than that the clubs. Probably an unfair accusation of Moyes on the whole but I felt for the season or two before he left it was important to him he didn't gamble with his own record and sometimes you have to if you want players to develop.
We are going to have to improve net results in the near future but Martinez deserves time for me because he has had an eye on the future

He moved on most of their squad in 1st two seasons
He stated he would rather win 5-4 than 1-0
He was slated by fans in first 2-3 seasons at Barca
Chairman vetoed board decision to fire him
Changed youth setup (la masia)..

Alot of similatities and won copa del rey then barca were amazing the following seasons...

Might not need to look. Whatever else we can accuse Martinez of I think we're a much more attractive prospect for any manager now. A season on and who knows who'll be knocking on our door. Would help to be nearer the top but I'd be looking more at the quality on the pitch and coming through if I was wondering which job to take on.

Main difference is he was able to move players on easily back then and yet actually took a very long time to rebuild...Martinez is shifting an entire squad within 3 seasons.

I have no idea but assume its someone good enough to be 1st choice for a team in europe every season.

As much as I think he's not up to it, if he improved then I'd be happy with him staying.

I don't want him sacked for the sake of it. But how long do we give him to improve?

Easy to forget that Barca weren't close to the force they are now. Other managers have benefited from his work. Not saying Martinez is even close to his quality but he's not a bad role model.

Don't get me wrong - I really want for Martinez to get it right (despite me ripping the back out of him) - surely you can understand my frustration though? I think we are great going forward (at times) - Chelsea away for example this season however.......but again, game management

They're similar in their outlook. Obviously so are Pulis and Mourinho, so nobody is saying we will end up like Barca any time soon. I'd say Dortmund is achievable soon enough. Looks a long way off at the moment considering what's happening on the pitch but maybe we're going exactly in right direction in other ways. Sometimes it's a spark that changes things on the pitch rather than steady progress. And when it happens what is under the surface becomes crucial.
