It's just, if he could sell us when we were skint to these players why would he have a harder time of it now we have the cash to back up some better spending?

He worked off a reputation as a bright young manager who'd just won an FA Cup, and his second season - where he brought in the star talent permanently for the most part - was off the back of a stellar season.

Since then, his stock has plummeted. He's gone from "potential Barcelona manager" a few years back to an absolute nobody who is laughed at by most for his verbal diarrhoea.

The following is simply a fact - a recognised continental manager such as Mourinho, Ancelotti or even Mancini will be able to attract a higher calibre of player to the club than Martinez will be able to right now with the same funds. Having a competent, recognised manager at this stage is the difference between being seen as a sinking ship and one that's right on track.

shall we move onto players sold? Martinez wins on this :D...although I suppose anichebe and jelavic might yet prove to be the diamonds that slipped through our fingers..

So you are now basing your point on Martinez getting a decent fee for players that Moyes bought on the cheap or brought through the system? Hmmmm never thought that one through did you?

I do hope so mate.

If in 12months we sit on top of the table, with "The Entertainers" label replaced with the "Martinezs invincibles" I will gladly eat as much humble pie as you can serve.

almost as ridiculous as mourinho getting sacked after winning the league and ranieri in position to win the league..

The squad that finished 17th was not full of established internationals and some of the most promising young talent in Europe.

Lucky we won't finish 17th then.

I'm glad you acknowledge that Moyes was under pressure on numerous occasions during his Everton tenure. However, the fact that he wasn't under that much pressure during that summer, far less than he was in say the 05/06 season or after we lost to the RS in 2012, gives you some indication as to where Everton were during that period.

We were in no position to just sack the manager and get a better replacement back then, whereas we just don't need to settle for the second class services of Roberto Martinez right now. We can attract and afford better, so why stick with the second rate option that is about to see us regress to consecutive bottom half finishes? We can do better, so why put up with worse?

Martinez has raised your expectations after being told about glass ceilings for so long. You want to be a little more grateful.

So for the second time, I noticed you didn't reply to the first, Davek said Martinez had done better in the transfer market, which isn't true is it?
its not comparable
One had 11 years, one has had 3. It's like saying "how many accidents have you had" to a driver of 3 years and one of 11 years. The one who's been around will have had more good and bad days driving than the inexperienced one.

One has had more funds from TV deals made available to him.

It's not comparable, although personally I think Moyes did well considering his (more often than not) lack of funds - that was criminal the way he was denied sell on fees. Martinez has bought Lukaku, Deulofeu, McCarthy, Barry, all who are useful.

Both managers signed duds, all managers do. I think they've both been OK to be honest.

neil999 - I think everyone is forgetting that moyes was ginger
Stop it

Of course, but when you look at the list of players I listed on the last page though, you realise Martinez has a long way to go before even coming close, if he even gets that long.

We'll see come the summer if that is the case.

One of the benefits as a result of Moyes' longevity at the club was that there was a feeling of stability developed. Players were being signed for the long-term and they knew it when they joined. I fear if we give in to sacking the man now that we will then give off the impression of instability and I fear that that appearance may be more costly for the club above Martinez' ability to attract talent and improve the team.

You've named some world class managers but they are only going to join if we have the makings of a world class squad. I believe we couldn't just turn to any of the managers you have named this summer to walk into the club and overhaul things. Martinez is going to be given the opportunity this summer to build his squad further. I just think that it is the reality of the situation for now as there is no sign of him being sacked at the moment. I think there is evidence he has attracted players of good stature and ability to Everton in the past and I think we'll see him given the opportunity, with more cash, this summer to try and improve the squad again.
