If he wins the cup it would be impossible to fire him, we're not Real Madrid! However if we don't win the cup he needs to go, and we need to get a manager in who Barkley, Stones and Lukaku want to play for.

Well in contemporary Everton terms, three years is not that long. And when you look at his record, it's not that bad. Factoring in the positives. Of course the home record is grim, and all the other stats that you can bring against him. But in that, he's hardly alone amongst managers who have gone on to achieve widespread success.

The question you may need to ask yourself is, are you prepared to give him a chance. He's got us to the semi-finals, surely a bit of patience here isn't intolerable. Let the events/fate play out before we start judging. If he wins the Cup. I'm sure those looking to fire him now, will look more the fool than Martinez himself.
If a better manager is interested in the job we should go for it.

Yes.

If he is backed with the monies to seriously attempt Champions League qualification and winning the league. Which, incidentally, I don't believe Moyes or Martinez ever had. There's no place for sentimentality if you are serious about competing and winning. Hence Moore's sacking of Carey.

Well Martinez was an arrival nearly three seasons ago. Ok, here's another, non Everton though.

Alex Ferguson

First full year in charge. 11th
Second Season. 2nd.
Third Season. 11th.
Fourth Season. 13th. Interestingly they won the FA CUP that year.

Now I'm not for one minute, claiming Martinez is the new Ferguson. What I am claiming though. Is initially a manager can have ups as well as downs before they go on to be successful.
I think this is the most pertinent post of the whole thread. Knee-jerkers beware.
And the same could be said of Howard Kendal.

Conversely, Mike Walker was Norwich's golden child, getting them to advanced European stages, and Martinez won Wigan the FA Cup then nearly got us 4th.

Works both ways, this Everton lark.

There's no question that struggling in the first few years is not a sure-fire indicator that you'll be the next SAF...

That's where subjective assessments of direction of travel come in. For me, we've made massive progress under RM in terms of squad composition, balance and, most importantly, performances. I think the results will come.

I respect people who think otherwise.

What do you base that on?
