By his own when he promised CL football.

Moyes teams consistently chasing top 6. Wasn't good enough.

but now bottom half 2 years in a row suddenly is acceptable.

This man has fooled some of the more easily led into thinking that's our level.

Haha here we go again blaming the players

Surely the players are partly to blame? As its the players who get praised when we win. But Its all Robertos fault if we lose?

Consistent 5th - 7th (PLACE TROPHY WOO) were already a thing before him, year in year out.

By everyone who agreed and said he'd be a massive step up from Moyes. And we're still a PL club, but then again so were Villa, so are Sunderland (barely, sorry Sland bois) and many other teams. We're Everton, NSNO surely means SOMETHING still?! We can't just close our eyes and write off season after season because our manager is supposedly going to turn it around "next year" (ding ding BAWK) for the 3rd year in a row?
Hat's off to you and the others who have campaigned in this international break to unseat the manager and get some momentum going.

You've been insistent and incessant in attack. If bridling against Martinez's tenure in enough numbers translated into anything meaningful he'd have been out of here by now. Unfortunately for you it means nothing of the sort. The real world beats to a different rhythm - one based on a cool assessment of past performance as well as present performance; on league and cup performance; on results now and the potential to progress; on the real potential of silverware this season; and on personal relationships between the protagonists.

Maybe matters will change on that score. Things can move quickly. But all the huffing and puffing in the world wont change anything in the short term.

Isn't everyone getting fed up with this thread yet?

Absolutely, it's becoming tedious.

Post knocking Chelsea out of the cup, everyone was on a high and genuinely looking forward to the rest of the season.

Post the humbling by Arsenal, I and I suspect many others have felt sick and tired of this season... and now, with the BS surrounding Lukaku, I am not looking forward to the semi-final like I/we should be.

I don't know what the best course of action is that the club should take, but I'm becoming ever more convinced that the current manager is not the manager we all hoped he would be after his first season.

He may well have achieved the 72 points and got us to fifth, but as others have said, that campaign ended in a whimper and with the benefit of hindsight, the first alarm bells should give started tolling when we got our read end handed to us in that 4-0 thrashing across the park.

I hope he can get three wins from our final three home games.
I hope we can get some good/great results from our remaining away games.
I'd love us to win a OT, across the park and most of all at Leicester.
I'm praying that we can win the semi and then the Cup Final.

If none of this happens, we are all in for a collectively 5hyte summer and the squabbling on this forum could get toxic beyond belief.

COYB - 9 from 9 at home, at least 6 on the road, and a cup victory to celebrate.

I'm of the opinion that a lot of this Martinez hate is a convenient scapegoat and focal point for much self loathing in one's lives.

It's proven. It's the same types droning on in here about how crap everything is in the hope of getting everyone as truly. sad as them.

It's ok. Some of us will take your cruel barbs
and give you hugs as our blue brothers and sisters.

We WILL heal you.

I don't know what to say. This poses more questions than it does answers. The first one being why can't he get anywhere near it again?
Yes, it's a good question. personally I dont think it'll be bettered until we see a massive injection of cash into this squad. That mark was exceptional and usually (Leicester's freak season notwithstanding) comes from a squad put together for a couple of hundred million.

It's importance is that it now provides the Everton high water mark. It's a target for the coming years. Because if we ever get near it again it'll mean we're knocking on the door a CL place for certain.

5th is the same as 15th unless the 5th place position gives us more points than a previous finish of 4th, in which case 5th is better than 4th

The code has been cracked
Win the cup and I'd take 17th. Anyone saying anything differently are fibbing. You know it too.

the 72 points you keep referencing needs some context : we finished 5th...7 points behind 4th. It was all a bit 'meh' in the end wasn't it? A disappointing end I recall with limp performances at the real business end of that season?
...yeah. It was "meh" smashing through our record points total with 21 wins. proper "meh".
