Sorry Dave no ones on a witch hunt. People are looking at more than the only 2 facts you have to defend him.

You conveniently airbrush over our recent league record and write it off because we had an easy run in the league cup until we met city and a relatively easy FA cup run. Yes I include a below par Chelsea in relatively easy

Chelsea that hadn't been beaten domestically for 17 games? That Chelsea?

Pffft!

Just compliment your OWN football team will you?

FFS.

Yes, it's a good question. personally I dont think it'll be bettered until we see a massive injection of cash into this squad. That mark was exceptional and usually (Leicester's freak season notwithstanding) comes from a squad put together for a couple of hundred million.

It's importance is that it now provides the Everton high water mark. It's a target for the coming years. Because if we ever get near it again it'll mean we're knocking on the door a CL place for certain.

Stopped reading at that point

Absolutely, it's becoming tedious.

Post knocking Chelsea out of the cup, everyone was on a high and genuinely looking forward to the rest of the season.

Post the humbling by Arsenal, I and I suspect many others have felt sick and tired of this season... and now, with the BS surrounding Lukaku, I am not looking forward to the semi-final like I/we should be.

I don't know what the best course of action is that the club should take, but I'm becoming ever more convinced that the current manager is not the manager we all hoped he would be after his first season.

He may well have achieved the 72 points and got us to fifth, but as others have said, that campaign ended in a whimper and with the benefit of hindsight, the first alarm bells should give started tolling when we got our read end handed to us in that 4-0 thrashing across the park.

I hope he can get three wins from our final three home games.
I hope we can get some good/great results from our remaining away games.
I'd love us to win a OT, across the park and most of all at Leicester.
I'm praying that we can win the semi and then the Cup Final.

If none of this happens, we are all in for a collectively 5hyte summer and the squabbling on this forum could get toxic beyond belief.

COYB - 9 from 9 at home, at least 6 on the road, and a cup victory to celebrate.
You are spot on. There was a euphoria when we beat Chelsea. Not so much with the performance, but the manner of the goals and the subsequent Wembley appearance to look forward to. Since that we have been handed the most difficult of semi final draws (admittedly one a think we can win) and followed it with arguably our worst home performance of the season, that seems to have sapped all the momentum gained from the Chelsea victory. Fast forward to this weekend and we have lukaku and his father banging on about his wish for champions league football and which he clubs he should go to. Is it any wonder Everton fans are so despondent at the moment.

I actually said that "it was all a bit 'meh' in the end" . As per usual, you edit others posts to suit your jaundiced agenda. End of the day, we finished 5th...which according to you, is the same as finishing 15th...lol

He's like a seasoned politician mate, he can't argue he'll just twist words to suit his own agenda. Wouldn't be out of place on question time defending Osbornes budget.

It's quite a skill set he has, bit like arl bobby brown shoes

Great manager. Will end our trophy drought this season by winning the FA Cup. We'll finish top half definitely.

So great manager. Great club. Yeah he gets us mad sometimes but it'll be worth it in the end.

I'll never get on board with this angle, I'm sorry because you're a very eloquent non confrontational poster who puts a lot of thought into you're post' but you're on about building to a future that see us compete with the afore mentioned clubs yet we are about to lose the only player who has kept this whole season 'respectable' because of our current scenario.

I don't care what anyone says, if repeat IF we lose Lukaku we are struggling I say this on the basis that as things stand to Everton football club he is irreplaceable. So baring that in mind this squad has an almighty task on its hands to improve going into next season already and that is without the potential Stones issue alongside the fact Barkley only has 24 months left an if we get a whiff he won't be re-signing then in terms of market value he will be more valuable with 2 years left as appose 1.

We are currently sailing up a creek that is filled with you know what, we do have a paddle, but it's not a very good one.

It's a phenomenal paddle.

Context is everything mate. 61 points is better than 72 points if the former gets you a 4th place finish whilst the latter gains only 5th.

It's a better result - for sure! Not sure it's a reflection on the manager though, Every season is different, and I don't believe we're a million miles away! COYB!
