Dave, you've done nothing to counter that Martinez does not possess all the necessary skills to sustain a challenge for CL places, other than to suggest that's not a viable ambition.

If it's not viable for Everton why should it be so for Leicester, Spurs and West Ham?

...that one sentence alone not only puts a LOT of the pro-RM argument to bed, it also tucks it in, pats it on the head and shuts the door on the way out...;)

Ha Ha. What, things dont change rapidly in football? That's merely stating that things can come out of the blue. There's zero expectation of anything happening on the managerial front until RMs contract is into it's final stages.

The fact that you have to cling onto apparent slips in one contributors posts on a fan forum sort of underlines the dearth of any movement at all that you'd like to be taking place....although I do hear Pellegrini is 'on his way'.

*chortles*

Too late Dave, you let the mask slip for a moment and it has been seized upon, can almost imagine you for a moment sticking one foot up on the first plank of the fence earleir before sheepishly pulling it away and checking to make sure no one saw. ;)

Hold on, I hear the screech of brakes and a u-turn here: didn't you say 'consistently' press for CL spots? Other than a massively bankrolled Spurs team in recent seasons, which other team fits that description? Not Everton, and certainly not WHU and Leicester.

I underline the point because it's worth underlining: we have not been funded to this point to challenge for CL places. That's why Moyes never came under scrutiny as a manager who failed all but once in 11 seasons to take a CL spot...and quite rightly. However, under much the same circumstances, Martinez IS tasked with getting them.

If there's unanswered questions they rest with you: why now, why Martinez? Why is the bar set higher for him than for those he succeeded?

Well he did say he would get us CL,silly man.

Martinez is our most successful PL manager - FACT
Incorrect. 4th > 5th

Martinez has us at Wembley - FACT
For a Semi. I've always thought the fa cheapened the Wembley experience by putting semi finals there to help pay their bills but thats another discussion

Martinez has us scoring record levels of goals ('just' 72 right now) - FACT
Including 29 against the bottom 3 and lower lever opposition

So 43 goals and 5 wins outside of those chumps. Not very impressive

Martinez has the Midas touch in the transfer market - FACT
Alcaraz, kone and mcgeady just called

Martinez has engineered some of the best football played by Everton in decades - FACT
In your opinion Dave. Facts have to be quantifiable

Martinez (for all the above reasons) is backed by his chairman - FACT
An assumption you make. Again not a fact

Doesn't feel like it. Countering fume with facts = piece of piss.

and that's your opinion - it may or may not be an actual fact though, which is my opinion.
like your 'fact' the other day that plotters mostly want Moyes back.

my 2 opinions are...no they don't...they just want Martinez gone.

The fact is Martinez is still here and not gone

An opinion is he is the best man for the job and will get it right if given time
another opinion is the amount of time
my opinion is the cup may well be keeping him in a job and the that the issue will be reviewed at the end of the season.

Consistently and sustain - two words inferring not just one season but over a period of time, no brakes or u-turns here, in fact I think it's time to press the accelerator lol
