MARTINEZ = gets 5th, genius.

MOYES = gets 4th, nobhead.

Sheeesh....

The actual tally of points, when all said and done, count for little (unless I totally missed a CL campaign and a trophy via the '72' like?) if others above have more...it's that simple.

Its not said often enough but have you noticed that despite the tactics not changing , when it doesn't go to plan then there us always a reason or excuse or someone to blame?

...which is EXACTLY what happened, tactically, at WIGAN....same disco in games, same results & elsewhere the finger points. Ergo he learns NOTHING.

This is what he does.

Get beat in the derby

This ought to be the yardstick/pivot for the entrenched, pro-martinez.

After all, we all of us (pro & anti) go on about how bang average they are, how easily they can be turned over at home, and some of us almost hold banners aloft about our 7th best away form, don't we? :blush:

Failure to beat them is perhaps the most damning indictment of martinez's persistent failure this season for me; but no doubt the 'pros' will say martinez had the semi final in mind....Which we'll go into without the confidence a win would've brought.

Well, one of the two simply isn't good enough - it's NOT either/or....It ought to be BOTH.

Points are irrelevant compared to league position. The league's strength changes every year. The dominance of the top teams fluctuates, an influx of money can shake up proceedings, and at the very least 3 teams are relegated and 3 new teams appear in the division.

Getting over 70 odd points was great but if 4 teams did better than that, then 04/05 was a more successful season as only 3 teams bettered that. Do you think anyone cares how many points you get if you win the title? All that matters is that you're at the top of the pile.

All in all though, comparisons with 04/05 are damning to Martinez whatever the context. This is because we achieved that with mostly rubbish players. It was our Leicester moment, showing that the true mark of a team is how they play together and how they hold their nerve, not the hypothetical valuation of their best XI. With the quality we have now, even a modicum of the steel we had back then would see us in the top 4 easily. But I don't believe we'll ever see that resilience under Martinez. That's why I want him gone.

Great post. Perfect summary.

This thread is actually insane now.

We are being told 5th is as useless as 17th.....fans are being accused of wanting Everton to lose so we can get rid of him......the home record doesn't matter.........the number of wins in a season doesn't matter as we are the entertainers..........etc etc etc

I cannot possibly think of any reason to debate with somebody of that mindset. If it is not a wind up then it's verging on proper insanity.

The art of deflection my man.
Usually a desperate man's final manoeuvre.
Sit back, watch, enjoy :)

It's not pleasant to watch or read though, and I know we all have opinions and stuff, but come on....this has to be either the best hoax ever created on the internet or we need to get a cattle prod and a straight jacket.

Martinez out for me if we lose the semi by the way ;)

Just read the Lukaku article on Sky.

There is no hiding place any more for Roberto, the media are onto him. He's been rumbled for our league position and more obviously for his win rate and inability to get the team to string some results together.

Looks like the writing is on the wall unless he wins the cup.
