My take on it is, I'm very happy to be in the FA Cup semi final, and we have had a respectable run in the League Cup, being put out by a very very good team. Also, it must be said that we played really rather well indeed last season against the like of Wolfsburg who again are very good.

My concern is that the league form is lacking somewhat. I don't resent the man or want him sacked for the sake of it, I want Everton to do well and win stuff, yet not simultaneously be below par in the league.

Is he the right man for that?

This is my view also. For me a cup run is only successful if you either win the trophy or the cup run has a positive impact on the league form. I appreciate others may not agree.

Oh you just don't get it, do ya?

It's WEMBLEY lads...WEMBLEY! You know what that means, dontcha?

Oh dear.

Did you check the exact date in March last year when I posted that? It was March 8th.

What was the form up to March 8th? One win in 12 games. Hence my post you quoted:"if he doesn't and we continue in this form, of course he'd have to lose his job."

And, of course that would have been the outcome. But that form wasn't continued either into the rest of that season nor this season.

Another smoking gun that wasn't actually fired.

:coffee:

Teflon...

@davek, the reason for bringing this quote to your attention is that 12 months ago you conceded "there won't be any hiding place for him" if he did exactly what he has done throughout this season.

However consistently in this thread you have called everyone who brought Martinez under the very scrutiny you yourself anticipated if he performed as he has.

If it was acceptable 12 months ago to expect scrutiny and criticism based on performance criteria not met, what has changed to make it (and the consequences, ie the calling for a change of manager) unacceptable now?

The implication of your quote was clear, yet 12 months on your stance has changed and you berate those that hold the view you expressed.

I know you are a dedicated blue and usually very consistent in your stance. What's changed here?
Outstanding!

Yes it means the FA have to fund the new national stadium so all semis are there. I'll celebrate when we win the cup.

I'm sorry if that's a cynical take on it, but just a few years ago this'd be at Villa Park. Wembley should be for the final. Again, some may disagree.

Seriously, I can't remember the last time I heard his voice. I have no interest in anything he says at all

Me too, from when I was a kid up until last last season I listened to every prematch presser with intent. Studied them almost. Every one.

Until last season and this one. I thought it might be something to do with growing up but it's just Martinez.

A caveat to that - we did very well against Wolfsburg in the group stages - have no doubt about the fact in a knockout stage they would have beaten us, in the knockouts the despatched of Sporting and Inter Milan before being put out by a very good Napoli side, we beat some swizz melts then got embaressed by the first half decent team we played in Kiev

League cup run this season mate - we played one side even half decent and they beat us comfortably

Thank god someone has the same opinion

Is it traditional to wear suits in the same manor you used to for a final, in the semi-final?

I read on here a week or so ago that Martinez was choosing the club suit but was unsure.
