The difference between finishing 5th and 12th is simple.

You sign players like Lukaku when you finish 5th, you lose players like Lukaku when you finish 12th.
Some believe winning the cup and finishing bottom half again with convince top foreign stars to come and join us over better performing teams.

Winning the cup would be amazing for us fans and it really has been too long. Roberto should rightly be applauded for it if we win it.

However top players want to playing in or attempting to achieve champions league football. A cup win makes no difference to this IMO.

The 72 point season was much more influential in attracting talent than a cup win would ever do.

Well said.

I get the impression that one person defends the manager and the others follow suit to strengthen what they are saying, hence the repeated points that make our club look like a joke if we all felt the same.

What if we lose the semi final? Been plenty if talk of winning the cup like a certainty, so many mentions of give him more time if he wins the cup. Considering we haven't beat one opposition this season, and could lose twice against the other today, we are massive underdogs in the tie and its amazing considering one of those teams are linked with buying all our best players !
All hell will break loose in here, and the mods will have to be at the ready I am afraid.

Our aim, which is the aim of every football club in the world, is to finish as high as possible in your respective league.

Anybody who does not this does not understand football, probably never really been involved in football at any level, or possibly is just a WUM by claiming any other possible scenario is satisfactory.
Not too long ago people laughed at Liverpool for being only obsessed with winning trophies despite league form , now some people will have you believe that is good enough for us as well and still expect to field a top 11 side.

Balls to money, Martinez at Wigan signed boselli , Martinez at Everton signed lukaku. Now Martinez has turned us into Wigan he is losing lukaku and signing naisse who for the love of god should he in the team right now if he is any good.

Too many people hang onto the old motion if how the game used to work.

Winning the fa cup is fantastic for the fans. Meaningless for the team in our position.

Finishing 4th would do a lot more for the club itself, that 4th place trophy is one step away from winning the league. Want proof? Our world class striker would stay if we won that 4th place trophy, fa cup only? He is already leaving in March.

Agree. I think he'd stay if we finished 5th/6th, with Moshiri now involved.

...worrying this, and still deemed 'not ready'. How so? More worrying being the fact - and as I've posted previously - that one sports journo on the RUSSIAN side genuinely felt that KONE was perhaps a better player than OUMAR.

Blimey.

Martinez is too stubborn to change. People will still be talking in years about defensive frailties if hes given more time. I think behind the scenes the players mindsets have dropped. Once lukaku leaves in the summer the team will struggle big time with Kone up front. Can anyone believe him when he says we can compete with the best teams for the best players. His drivel has turned alot of people off. Time for change with someone coming in who can get the best out of the players offensively and defensively rather than talk about it. Hes the Manuel of football

That's the kind of post that drags this thread down mate. Sure, don't rate Martinez.....but don't beleive that Kone will be our main striker next season....that's plain negative sensationalism to make a point.

....unless such team possesses rare counterpoise like a Lukaku; which, luckily for EFC, it does.

the 'hunting with the hounds, running with the foxes' (aka 'feet in both camps')position assumed as argument for supporting continued tenure of an evidently under-performing manager, is just plain disingenuousness.
You might pussyfoot reality all you will....but the truth is staring you in the face...

Mr Thesaurus.....just accept that people have different views and opinions. Nothing to do with 'pussyfooting'.....

Footballers move for money. Don't kid yourself it's any other reason. If so-called champs leagues teams were offering £20K a week they'd be playing the U-21's.

Ridiculous ramblings and child like attempts at winding the true Evertonians on here who care about the club and the team, who also realise the current manager is not an integral part to our future if he cannot do his job properly.

We haven't even seen a penny of anybody's money yet either, which backs up what I am saying about the winding people up element.

I am really amazed mods allow these kinds of attempts of goading caring Evertonians on here if I am really honest.
Or put another way.. agree with me or shut up.
'true Evertonians'? Personally don't remember any reference to entitlement, but you have it right there

Top 7 I'd be happy with mate. My expectations aren't unrealistic , 7th a normal position for us judging past 14 years, 12th and losing a lot of ground on the top half one is where my issues lie. That and failing to beat teams most league unless they are getting relegated this year.

Aye but right now any player willing to move for money now has a choice of 4-5 teams compared to a few years ago. Right now, we aren't even part of that group! We are equal to west brom, Swansea , palace etc, west ham, stoke , Southampton to name a few have left us in their shadow, and with far better managers as well

...to be honest mate I don't think the thread can be dragged any further down than A) the fact it's been suggested that the fans are somehow to blame for the form which, frankly, is a desperate attempt at deflection away from the managers oft-shown lack of acumen and B) 5th is the same as 15th, if that were so would there really be any point in in going/renewing etc, if you (not you like) embrace that then everything's just a bit 'meh' aside from cups innit...

No, you're right, I don't believe (hope not anyway) that KONE's gonna be even in the mix next year, but it appears ROM almost definitely isn't....and that's SO disappointing if it happens because he's what we've cried out for all these years. And, fleeting as it was, they're big shoes to fill...

Yes, no player's bigger than the club, players can be replaced...all that. But - and as much as I loathe making points in this sense - hypothetically - well, take ROM's input out of the equation thus far and we are left with what?

He's essentially RM's variation of BRENDAN's LUIS...

Glad to hear no Everton players have been linked with these doping allegations. But convinced all managers should be tested immediately. This will once and for all prove that Roberto definitely is a dope.

Gah, was going to use this one somewhere. Bravo.
