Less than 3 points out of next two away games and giljotin must drop.

That would give team one home game
(Everton - Soton) with interim manager before the derby

I genuinely shake my head that some fans think this is acceptable, ffs do you not have any ambition? Do your weekends not get ruined by Everton effing up week in week out? Do you not have kopite family, mates and work collegues ripping the pee out of you every Monday morning or after a defeat? I actually can't fathom what this snake oil salesman has sold to some people genuinely baffled.

If we could guarantee a trophy by doing it I'd accept a defeat from them.

...and anyone thinking clearly would too.

Liverpool Echo's coverage of us at the moment is something to behold. If you ever needed proof that they will NOT question anything at Everton, there you are.
Just read O'Keefes half arsed effort, he should be called out by the local media, he is getting a free ride.

...we'll see.

Cup wins are massive...we've only ever won 5, so I dont underestimate the importance.

They are massive and I don't think there is anyone here who wouldn't rightly celebrate it.

I do worry that winning it, which is in no way in the bag, wouldn't be the cure all for our current issues. Leave today aside, I didn't expect us to get anything against manure, our league form over the whole season to date and last year has been unacceptable. That to me is a better gauge of our club than a handful of cup games.

I would dearly love us to win the FA Cup, I doubt that even if we win the cup it would be enough to save Martinez. I don't want to be cup winners and relegation candidates within two years, or sooner. I honestly believe Martinez will get us relegated if we give him enough time.
As for the cup, I pose a question, if Watford or Bournemouth were in our semi-final spot how confident would you be that one of them could win it.
Look at the league table, Martinez has brought us to the level of Bournemouth and Watford.
We are progressing backwards.

No, but who the hell would say that?

Also, it's not a zero sum game. Amazingly, and despite Martinez doing his best to prove otherwise, you can do well in the league and also do well in the cups!

Indeed, if you do well in the league, you're more likely to do well in the cups - see the past winners of the FA Cup over the last 20 years and you'll see a pattern.

Listen our performance in the league has not been good enough. We've underachieved and failed in the league. And we will have done whether we get maximum or minimum points out of our remaning 8 games.

However we still have a chance to win a cup.

All I have ever said is that I will not fully judge this season until we are out of both cups.

I don't get how it isn't obvious that at this point good performances in the league will not change our season around but good perfomances in the cup might. And likewise bad performances in the league won't end this season but bad performances in the cup will.

1-0 away defeat to Man Utd. No one could have been looking at that as a game we shouldn't lose. They are CL spot contenders.

I'm sorry, but the fume was called faux for very good reason: that's exactly what it is -faux.

The real rage from many of these people (perhaps the bulk) is that they know Martinez has that SF cup tie to fire us to season success. THATS the real game here: fear of that happening. They are literally enraged that we're still in their with a fantastic shot at the cup and ending the season on a historic note.

And that ^^^ is bang on the money, isn't it?
I really think that's not on Dave. Are you truly suggesting that anyone who thinks Martinez isn't good enough to manage a team like Everton are literally enraged with the thought of us proceeding beyond the quarter finals?
At least come out with a proper response. Losing 1-0 away is no shame. The tactics/timings of the subs and the lack of desire from the players was the shame. Setting up for a knockout comp, he's done well, has a cup CV as good as McClaren et al. His league CV is not good enough with 1 top half finish ever.
