I said it a lot when we had Moyes here.

It means that finishing 5th repeatedly doesn't gain you anything unless you can use that team to win something.

And I stand by it.

So many people were sucking Martinez off for getting us 5th his first season and it meant nothing unless he could take that team and win something with it.

I like watching everton win games and play good football and play in europe, I really do, but it's trophies that matter. And 10 5th places in a row is a failiure if you can't win any silverware with that team.

The thing it is was meant as a criticism of 5th rather than a defence of 15th.

Yeah, again, so much wrong.

See, 5th is... 5th. It means you were the 5th best team in the league. If you don't then win the league or a cup afterwards, it doesn't mean 5th is devalued in any way whatsoever.

5th, in many obvious ways, is better than 15th. And financially and in terms of European qualification and attractiveness as a club to players, it's also got many advantages over winning the FA Cup.

In short - and I have no idea why this needs to be even typed - Everton should be aiming to finish as high in the league as possible, at all times, and the cups should be an added bonus that should never be the focus of any campaign ever.

1-0 away defeat to Man Utd. No one could have been looking at that as a game we shouldn't lose. They are CL spot contenders.

I'm sorry, but the fume was called faux for very good reason: that's exactly what it is -faux.

The real rage from many of these people (perhaps the bulk) is that they know Martinez has that SF cup tie to fire us to season success. THATS the real game here: fear of that happening. They are literally enraged that we're still in their with a fantastic shot at the cup and ending the season on a historic note.

And that ^^^ is bang on the money, isn't it?
Watch out for those splinters while you're scraping the bottom of the barrel old bean.

I think we have to look at the reality of the situation ( this includes Dave K etc) Our league form for nigh on two seasons now has been abysmal. For a squad like ours, finishing 12th is highly unacceptable yet that is what is likely to happen two seasons in a row. I'm not for knee jerking but i think 76 games is more than enough to judge a man on how he can mould his team and tactics to suit each individual game. Martinez has not shown any willingness to try and change a side whose formation is lacking each week at home. Blind faith is all well and great but at some point you have to realise that results are not getting better, players are not performing better and tactics are not working against any and all opposition at Goodison so you have to evolve and change to suit. We are not doing this we are hoping beyond hope that it just happens and it quite clearly isn't. Roberto as the manager has to carry the can for the abject performances that have been served up and the utter balls up of our defensive setup and performance.

Two semi finals aside which lets be honest, cup games can be a lottery, just take a look at past winners these last ten years to see that, we are not good enough as a team nor do we look like that's likely to change anytime soon under the current management setup.

Come the final days of the season i think its time we wave goodbye to Roberto and herald a new beginning at Everton with a new manager who has the funds to mould the team the way they see fit.

So seriously in your eyes finishing 14th with no cups is better than 15th with a cup?

Awww. Makes me sad that Dave just ignores my attempts to help him make his now parody-shattering attempts at wind ups into something a little more convincing. They used to be so good too!

If there's a CHOICE.

...and if it was a choice: cup win every time.

What garbage are you chatting honestly? So the footballing God's from above are going to come into your life tonight and say ...

"Hi Davek, if I give you the choice, would you lose at Anfield but then win the FA cup ... I promise I'll make it happen?"

You've not once answered my question in my several times of asking so I'll do you a favour and answer it for you. Our motto means "Nothing but the best is good enough".

Nevermind that though, let's forget that, let's take a defeat at Anfield and play a game of pretend choices. 24 months of absolute tosh and you come up with gash like this.
