Roberto Martinez discussion

No Im not. I hate all this attractive football tippy tappy crap.

Winning football is the best football. Maybe Martinez can provide us that, who knows, but it doesnt delight me to just get a manager who plays "Attractive" football.
But you have to play attractive football to WIN CUPS.

What you need to do is stop worrying about things that ultimately don't matter. Football is basically froth on the sea of life. Think of all the people dying in Syria...get some perspective!

By that logic we wouldn't discuss any togger on here and it'd instead be just misleading hyper-links of horny animals.

I don't want Everton to be one of those clubs that dump a manager over short term period...obviously if it is a massive decline in performance, sure. Sometimes it takes more than one season for a club to adapt a new managers style etc.

so if we finish 10th, I wouldnt be calling for Martinez's head.

Mid-table would be very acceptable in his first season coming in and getting his formations and tactics known to the team and bedding in new recruits. Afterall, it's basically what even the trigger-happy Kopites were prepared to allow for their manager coming in - and one who had the luxury to spend well in excess of what Martinez will be allowed.

I'd hate to think we'd be more knee jerk than those fannies.

Not sure i agree with that - the first iteration of Mourinho's Chelsea were notorious for playing with reasonably low attractive levels of football, but high percentage and effective. It's ultimately why he fell out with abramovich first time around.

Mcleish's Birmingham won the League Cup with a hideous brand of anti-football. Greece won the European Championships by being set piece masters. Cardiff last season, won the League but played a dull, dull brand of football. Myriad examples to prove where you are wrong.

Actually cups are won by playing negative and even cynical football. The only times in 20 years that attractive football has won a continental or International trophy are the recent Barca wins and Spain 2010/12.

Knock-out football with away goals, for example, calls for conservative plays.

That's utter tripe mate.

Chelsea won the CL by playing the bus parking, backs to the wall style of football that we played in '04. Their football during that cup run would have put a glass eye to sleep & yet they lifted the pot.

You can win cups by playing negative football, but somewhere along the way boldness will be required and chances taken. You dont win anything without taking a few chances.

your right there davek, he will need a bit of time to make his mark with the team, this year to learn about the squad and who fits into his system ect, think he will get up around 8th to 6 th and win both cups that would be ok

I'm not concerned at all, i think he'll do well. He's a young bright manager, who is very intelligent, knows world football very well. He wants his team to play football the right way and understands tactics and what he needs to do to win games, by all accounts he is a very good manager and his eye for players from all over the place is very interesting. For a young manager he has already managed at the top level and sets his teams to build a legacy, like at swansea he set the basis for them to go on to do what they have done today. Even the constant relegation battles are a big experience for a manager, especially a young one. There will be hard times and there will be good times as transition takes place, the squad he has inherited are of a very high standard, but they are aging so slowly he will have to replace them and do what moyes did to an extent. He will get better and he will have time, and in the end i think he will become a very good manager for us. He's only been in charge of us for nine days and for the first few months it'll be hard to adjust, but give him time and trust him. Coyb.

I'm sorry, flagging this for the paragraph police.

Haha, lets hope he reads this, he won't want to disappoint you mate.

agree with the sentiment but just like to add that I think there is nothing wrong generally with the way someone liked Wimbledon approached the game and it can be fun to watch in its own way. as can doggedness in defence and calculated counter attacking, usually cos it brings out the best in more open teams. would rather Everton didn't use those methods but only style of football I cant watch is were spoiling and gamesmanship just stop the game. Stoke were worst example have seen for awhile and happily have won nothing. Birmingham were close to it when they won the cup though.
