Roberto Martinez discussion

.....there would be doubters with any appointment and no matter who got the job it would be gamble. As they say, the proof of the pudding will be in the eating and no amount of dialogue in this and similar threads will change that status. I'm happy with the appointment but only time will tell.

Some people appear to have ridiculous expectations.

Martinez is the best manager a club in our financial situation - due to our amazingly bad board - could attract.

I think he's the right man for us - he's making all the right noises, and saying all the right things.

We have a top 6 team. We have good players at this football club. Yes, Moyes going is a loss. But good players don't stop being good players just because the manager goes. Martinez is certainly not a hard disciplinarian who's going to [Poor language removed] several players. He's not a neanderthal manager going to play hoofball and marginalise our skillful players.

Wish people would stop jumping to ridiculously negative points of view 2 months before a ball is even kicked in anger.

Why do people keep talking about Moyes? He was in the right place at the right time for us when he came and gave us a platform.

I think Martinez is exactly what Everton need NOW, onwards

... why do you start every post with an elipsis?

This bigtime. Hundreds were bored of his dour football and now the reality of the unknown has sunk in, and people naturally being to panic a little bit. I couldn't be more excited.

No one who backs him are wearing any *mask* of delight. It's a realistic assessment that he's a talented manager who can do a great job for us.

And no one is expecting you to wear a mask of any description: just remain at worst neutral and let him persuade you or otherwise with results and performances.

To listen to some you'd think we just hired the manager of Marine rather than a man with more trophies than the boring plant pot who Man Utd have just made the worst error of judgement in their history about.

well said that man!

For those with doubts or questions over Martinez.

Out of all the candidates, who would of fitted in straight away for club like Everton?
The only choice is, was, Martinez.

I'm an Everton fan who has only been a supporter under Moyes. I'm not against change.
Whether you love Martinez or loathe him it really doesn't matter, all you should do now is get behind him and support him.
Moyes will be a tough act to follow but I'm sure with a slightly improved squad under a manager who plays passing football, we'll look good next season, I'm sure.

I think Martinez was an unambitious signing and that we will make more unambitious player signings this Summer. We will end up finishing about 10th and there will be lots and lots of excuses.

Last week I saw 2 blokes kissing in the park, until now, that was the gayest thing I had ever really encountered.

That made me chuckle. Chuckle hard.

To be fair, my op is obviously a bit dramatic, but it's honestly how I felt. Having read through all these posts though I'm starting to come round to the idea of Martinez now. I think as one poster pointed out, I probably just don't feel comfortable with change. I was always an avid Moyes fan. Probably loved him more than those two lads loved each other in the park! In my eyes, Moyes saved the club i love from what Wigan are now. But despite how amazing Moyes was in my eyes, even I wasn't blind to the fact that he could not deal with real pressure situations. Derbies were particularly awful. On the flip side of the coin, Martinez seemed useless in "nothing" games but was **** hot under pressure!!! Lets hope Kenwright's "I'll get Everton into the Champions League" quote for Martinez will turn out to be a stroke of genius and put Bobby under the pressure he so craves for Everton to succeed big style!

So for now, I'll do as others advised and sit in neutral, no reason to be negative if not overtly positive! To be honest I'm now just looking forward to preseason and seeing who he signs over the summer! COYB!

Cos to make a fair evaluation, you need to compare to what's gone before.
United fans are not saying Moyes is great because he's better than Mark Hughes, they will compare to SAF.
Did he do something wrong that we shouldn't talk about him?
If it helps I agree with your assessment of both managers although I have no idea how good he will be, I hope he's what we need. If he's what we think he is, he will be the next step forward, how far forward?.. who knows.

Theoretically most of the managers from the PL clubs between Liverpool and Wigan could be candidates, with exceptions, Southampton for example have only just got theirs. All of these finished higher than Martinez in the league. I actually think it was quite brave of Kewnright to have the faith to bring in someone who just got relegated.
Would of been safer in terms of accountability to go for Jol or Clarke, and when you look at the wages Moyes was on (I know I mentioned him again, sorry), its fairly likely we would of succeeded in securing their services, but we went with the cup winner that got relegated, and you know what? he still feels like the right choice.

Over a decade of long ball percentage football that bored the arse of me, I personally am looking forward to Martinez.

It's hard to have ambition when you have no money.

If we end up 10th, lets all jump on Martinez' back eh, because of course it will be all his fault won't it?

I'm trying. By god I am trying! But no matter how much I want to believe in him, how much I want him to succeed and how much I want to just feel naturally positive about the man, I just can't help but feel very worried and ultimately negative about the appointment of Roberto Martinez as manager of Everton Football Club. I know there's an obvious divide in Everton fans' views and opinions of this issue, but what about the man wearing the mask like me. The man who's putting a smile on and forcing himself to look and "feel" excited about Martinez, but deep down knows that something just doesn't fit. I know I'm not the only one wearing that mask of jubilance covering a face of concern, worry and gloominess. Having watched the full appointment of Martinez press conference on YouTube, I think it's blatantly obvious that Kenwright is wearing that mask too. Some say this is a time of promise and future glory, with the players we have, the football Martinez' teams play and the fact that we're taking on a manager who won what Moyesey never could (a trophy!), and I'm happy for those people. Others say this is a huge mistake, with a manager that's never progressed a bottom five team which was finishing higher in the league before he took over and now under his reign got relegated, and I'm happy for those people too. At least you openly know where you stand. But those of you wearing the mask of delight covering up a deep down despair, put your hand up and make yourself known, because I know there's more than just me and Blue Bill.

At least it´s not Brendan dumbest manager in England Rodgers, right mate?
