Roberto Martinez discussion

I'd start with Mirallas and Gerry on the wings every game, nea, With them in the side you create more chances and I'd rather us go out on our shield than surrender meakly. Cleverly and McCarthy and Barkley in midfield. I think that's a good blend of attacking flair and 2 V8 engines in the middle. But what do I know.

Defo yeah. That's why it was refreshing.

Many of them have felt that way before Kenwright employed him. That's why I cant take their protestations seriously. The likes of daz4matty and nsno-chris and others.
I have not said i want him out but the difference between me and you is i state his faults and am realistic, you think everything he does is wonderful.
He should have sorted the goalkeepig situation and its bad management not doing that but you pretend everything he does is perfect.
Be a man and admit when he makes mistakes.
He is not perfect by any means and i still worry about his management skills but like i said back in march i will give him a chance to do his job and learn the ropes which i am doing.
No need to dig me out when i have also praised him this season and mentioned the good things he has done.
I get the impression you are a bit of a drama queen who likes being muggy for the sake of it

lollollollollollol

do you seriously think he was out there for 6 weeks? It was a fortnight tops because he kept flying back if you remember. And if you think that all the planning for preseason is left until then, you'd be worse than Pulis and given that more than half of our squad was out there don't you think he should be looking in on them?

As for the punditry, why shouldn't he give a few minutes of his views on a match he was going to be at anyway in return for TV paying for him to be out there doing his Everton job rather than us paying for it? plus he got Press credentials which gave him better access than Everton could have arranged.

Come on, surely you've got enough of an imagination to channel your hatred of Bobby into something more relevant and substantial, you're grasping at straws here mate.
He kept flying back? From Brazil? Oh well then I take it all back, I see now.this was ideal preparation for the season when we stank he place.out from the first game of pre-season.
I'm saying the planning for the whole season is.done by the manager in those.precious few weeks when he hasn't got two games a week a d training g to worry him. I'm surprised you think that the one time in the year when he has the opportunity to get a clear head is beet used up by him boning up on all t he internationals he's going to be watching for itv. You keep believing he's doing it all for Everton then, and ill keep thinking n g he'd better not be at another internAtional tournament for a month this summer.
I don't hate Martinez, I wanted him on board.but last season was a major wake up call, and if I think he's continuing g to make the same.mistakes I will raise it

If Pulis thinks that time of the season is so important why was he out there working as a pundit for 5Live?

I honestly think we're not far away from having a good line up. A new keeper, Cleverley, Gibsonor Barkley replacing Barry. Two of Mirallas Del or Lennon on the flanks. Pace power creativity right throughout that. Not the most defensive team but we're conceding most games anyway.

For me it's a fairly well balanced side, If the full backs and wingers work in tandem ala Baines and Pienaar then it works. As you say, Conceding goals as long as we are scoring more matters not in my opinion.

I don't think it's to over the top, not like it's a 4 1 5 or anything, just giving our creative players a chance to play and supply our clinical striker with opportunities. McCarthy and Cleverly can run all day long, so for me it's balanced.

Oh god I sound like a football manager beaut

I disagree mate. Our team is not good enough to finish top four, no matter how much people delude themselves into thinking it is. Same goes for McCarthy, he might look OK in a mid table Everton side but he really isn't top four standard at all. Everton will be the biggest club he plays for, and I doubt he will ever play in the Champions League in his entire career. He is Shelvey standard, although Id actually prefer to have Shelvey, as at least he has a modicum of attacking ability and McCarthy's defensive capabilities are massively overrated. We are a mid table side, and have been for decades.
How have we been a mid table side for decades?
I disagree with you about jimmy mac at the moment he runs round putting out lots of fires and is twice the player shelvey is.
The premier league is changing with all the money being thrown at it and sides you don't expect will start making the top 4,why not us?
All the squads are getting stronger and anybody can beat anybody in this league

So, they're nailing their colours to the mast: they want Martinez out after a fixture run against the top teams in the PL has ben successfully negotiated and in the teeth of an injury crisis.

Now that is refreshingly honesty.

Injury crisis;
3 long term out of how many players.
2 with short term knocks
Any others are bit part players at best

crisis? what crisis? - Degsy after Jim Callaghan

'Top Teams'? all of them? surely sir you jest and exaggerate for comic effect.

Top Teams; City, Chelsea and United....W1 D0 L2

Our Level; rs, Spurs W 0 D2 L0

Other Ranks; Watford, Southampton, Swansea, WBA. W2 D2 L0

If Roberto is as good as you all say we would've done better performance-wise and maybe even results-wise, but he isn't, so we didn't
and
it
won't
change

This season we could jump like Cahill and still only lightly brush the tips of our fingers on the bottom of 59Pts aka bang average

But me, what do I know in the face of all this near fundamentalist grade righteous certainty, this lack of absolute doubt.

City, Utd, Arse, & Chelski in the end, are streets ahead of anyone !!

We've apparently been in an injury crisis for about three seasons. Why the club can't keep players fit for any stretch of time is beyond me. Still, that's managing at Everton for you. In 09 we lost Arteta Jagielka Yakubu and Anichebe to ligament injuries and fans still expected the manager to beat one of the top sides in Europe in the cup final. Logically it's crazy, but I don't mind if this way so much as that is our motto. Seems as though that's out the window now though and the perceived variances of random league fixtures, playing in more than one competition, having any injuries whatsoever, not getting one player in the summer, are all valid excuses for under achievement.

They're obviously not though. Chelsea have had a bad start and are playing really poorly. Statistically, it should be impossible for them to get fourth. They'll still get in though, because teams like us and Spurs soiled ourselves and didn't ram home the advantage. I said before given how poor some of the teams we have faced have been (not on paper, in reality) we should be a lot higher up in the league. We could have had Chelsea sweating big time with a run of comparatively easier fixtures coming up. Instead Chelsea will sneak into fourth with a points tally we probably could have obtained and we'll all bleat on again how top 4 is impossible.

In the last 5 seasons alone Chelsea have finished 6th, United 7th, City 5th, Liverpool have been in it once. With the constant managerial upheaval in the wake of Ferguson going, Mourinho going (will happen at some point), Wenger going (will happen at some point), and Pellegrini getting fired, there is always a chance one of the teams will have a bad year. We need to be ready, not messing around in 12th.

The top 4 used to be a lock out. Ferguson Wenger Mourinho Benitez, all guaranteed spots every year, all players knowing they were guaranteed. Even against this though the top 4 was breached once. The climate is nowhere near that bad now. Their spending has gone up but so has everyone else's and the quality gap has shortened. The glass curling is difficult to break but certainly nowhere near impossible.
