Roberto Martinez discussion

He needs to stop messing around and start playing Del and Mirallas on the wings. Del will have some poor games but even when he sucks he's capable of putting one of those awesome crosses in or running past a guy and smacking it in the back of the net. If we play both of them there's a good chance one or the other will have an ace day and if both do the other team is screwed.

If we're going to insist on using 2 DM's we have to make full use of the wings, which we're not doing using players like Naismith there.

I'm sorry if this comes across as rude because it genuinely isn't supposed to. But you really are missing the point quite spectacularly.

I'm not sure how clearly I can make the point that it's not working. I understand that Baines and Coleman aren't playing - my point is, does Roberto? It seems blatantly obvious that we cannot play the same way with Galloway and Browning, and yet we try to. Without our major threat, we need a different way of breaking teams down. And we don't have one. This is why I don't think the system works without a midfielder who can take an active part in the attack. I think we rely on the natural ability of players to beat a man or pull a wonder strike out of the bag, rather than having a clear and coherent plan to break teams down. When the two full backs are replaced by centre halves, and Mirallas/Deulofeu (and to a lesser extent McGeady) are overlooked for Naismith and Lennon, the number of players who can do something out of nothing are reduced to two, and it becomes very difficult for us to score.

Again, you resort later on to telling me how the system is set up to work. I've already stated that i'm fully aware of how we are set up to play and what the midfielders are being asked to do. The whole point is that i think it's wrong and doesn't work! You seem to be under the mistaken impression that i'm saying the midfielders should be getting 10 goals a season, but that isn't what i'm getting at. I believe that we need a midfielder who can orchestrate the play, playing quick, incisive passes forward from a deep lying role.

I'm not missing the point friend, I just have a different opinion to you.

Martinez, rightly or wrongly, doesn't want to expose both two young centre backs at the same time which is why I believe we have seen Galloway protected on one side by Naismith and generally seen more of a maverick winger on the other in Deulofeu or Kone (essentially a "wide striker").

If you believe that this is wrong, then fine. If you believe this is right however youd prefer one of the holding midfielders sacrificed for an attacking player like Barkley, or a crock like Gibson, then fine.

With respect, I think you're out of your mind. The last thing that team needs is more youngsters with more responsibility. The last thing that team needs is more attacking players shoe horning into it. Barkley playing deeper means more responsibility on him. I, others on here and Martinez don't think he's ready. Gibson playing there requires him off the treatment table.

I have no problem saying Barry requires a long term upgrade but we don't have one and again, with the injuries, further disrupting that side's fundamental partnerships is ridiculous.

The issue isn't Barry and McCarthy. It's Naismith and Lennon both playing. It's the inconsistency of Lukaku, Deulofeu. It's the suspension of Mirrallas. It's the lack of Pienaar. Its the lack of Pienaars replacement which Martinez very publically spoke about.

It isn't our only two holding midfielders.

If you believe differently, no worries. But I think you're spectacularly missing the real issue.

I am a huge Naisy fan...best left side player at EFC. I reckon Bobby agrees. And ok, so Naisy had an off game vs United...but no-one could argue he didn't half put a shift in.

Honestly, you are missing the point. But by so far that I can't even be bothered explaining again.
