Roberto Martinez discussion

Don't get why people care about this though, it's just his style.
Er, perhaps because we are offering our view in a forum thread entitled Martinez...Who Else is Wearing the Mask.

Now, if the thread were about Middle Eastern politics, or which company makes the best oil tanker propellers, then personal opinions proffered on Roberto Martinez's management style might seem very odd.

But this thread ain't about politics or propellers; it's about Martinez.

Yes, we won. And you won't hear me complaining about that, ever. The comment was taken from the first half though, when we were playing boring, ineffective and wank football.
It was phenomanally tedious, i will grant you that, but I'm not sure we were allowed to play wonderful, free flowing football by a team of giant combative defenders at the time. Plus I'm not entirely sure the team that started are entirely comfortable with said style of football yet.

That's exactly what it was. Are we supposed to pretend it was mesmirisingly exhilarating?

Not at all. Of course we're gonna have average - poor performances. We had them under Moyes, we'll have them under Martinez and every team will have them. That is your opinion of not just one game though.....

Not an hour ago you described our performances in not too different terms.

"and please don't refer to changing a style of play as some kind of major achievement, especially when it can often be dangerous, boring and tedious, and has so far had a negligible impact upon results."

There's more options than just incredibly good, and incredibly bad. You're saying anyone who thought that it was mesmerising is stupid, but periodically is wasn't soul crushingly boring and that's what makes your post silly.

Also, ineffective may have applied had we not won that game.

This is just it, people can't look at things both ways, either something's the best thing ever, or it's suicidally bad. Middle ground people FFS.

This is it, I can acknowledge that some of our performances saw us playing good, fast, effective football. I would say the home derby was a better example of that than the league game at Arsenal. Can you acknowledge that the style of play in 2014 has often been boring, ineffective and wank? Or are you going to maintain that it is wonderful, and that Everton have been providing exhilarating, exciting and mainly effective football in 2014?

Sorry, I phrased that wrongly.

I mean I don't know why people care about what managers say in their interviews or what have you.

I only care what they say on the pitch.

But a lot of supporters do. You are entitled to mystification as to why this may be. And they are entitled to polite and appropriately aired opinion (like a forum for instance) . There you go....sorted!

I dunno, I just care, Moyes was a dour bell, Martinez was a breath of fresh air, but he hasnt changed his tune, he smiles when we lose, I dont wanna hear the manager spout bollox after a defeat, I wanna hear him say it wasnt good enough and it wont happen again, hollow, shallow words, thats all I want.

As for me, I was glad to see the back of Moyes and I was willing to give Roberto a fair go.

I still am.......I wouldn't trade Roberto for Moyes.

That doesn't mean I won't question his decisions......there is no blind faith here....no blank cheque.

I want no more bollox like IMWT only with Martinez instead of Moyes.

Basically this. I think Bobby's the right man for the job but I dislike blind faith no matter who it's aimed at.

I hated the way this forum was full of people who wouldn't criticize Moyes when to me he hadn't done anything worthy of their worship and I don't want the same to happen with Martinez.

In the end, neither has won us a trophy yet.

for me, he has lighted the place up, changed the tone of the whole club.
People need to lay off Dymak.

He's not having a go at martinez at all, he's just preaching caution and taking exception to the hyperbolic point "we can lose every game we play from now on this season and I'd still love him".

Which lets face it, is ridiculous.

oh ffs x

I never listen to the manager's interviews. I don't really care what they have to say, if I'm honest. I watched the game myself, I have my own ideas how it went.
