Roberto Martinez discussion

This is it, I can acknowledge that some of our performances saw us playing good, fast, effective football. I would say the home derby was a better example of that than the league game at Arsenal. Can you acknowledge that the style of play in 2014 has often been boring, ineffective and wank? Or are you going to maintain that it is wonderful, and that Everton have been providing exhilarating, exciting and mainly effective football in 2014?
Only game I'd say we looked really poor in would be the Anfield derby. Sure we've been a bit 'toothless' but the derby aside, I've seen far worse Everton performances than anything I've witnessed since the turn of the year.

We look superb until the final 3rd, then, nothing.

Yes, like I say, we've been a bit toothless for a while, but I don't think the injuries and form of Barkley and Lukaku have helped. That brings us back to the point of the transfer window. And I understand your frustration there, but I can see the other side of that debate too.

If Ross and Lukaku had kept up there early form, there's no way we'd look 'toothless' and you know it. :P We've just had a bit of a bad spell, and fixtures at Anfield, The Emirates, White Hart Lane and Stamford Bridge were never going to be easy.

Let's just hope Ross and Lukaku start shining again. If we're toothless, it's been because of some players, not the same system that was seeing us snot teams not so long back.

Mate we played an entire month without a striker, pretty sure thats the reason we have been toothless.

Haha, yeah, but not quite lid. We played(with strikers, they just weren't in the same class there as an in-form Lukaku. Which like I said, brings us back to the transfer window debate. What I mean is, it's not the style, but the players we've had to play that has seen us struggle for a cutting edge.

There's a small sample size, but I've been wondering this myself.

We've not got a good record vs the top 5 this year but we've been pretty ruthless against the bottom half.

Too early to come to any real conclusions, mind. Plus the points totals the top 7 are racking up could just mean that it's a particularly poor bottom half this year.

I don't think this is the issue, rather instead it is the record vs. Bottom Half teams: 7-6-1

Count up the points dropped as you wish, but 4 or 6 points added to table makes a huge difference

I realize that Top Half record isn't the same as Top-5, but Everton's 6-3-4 against the Top Half rates 4th among all teams

Everyone wants to win against the top teams, no argument there, but that's not what's put Everton into 7th on the table at present

Oh, don't get me wrong if we have traded worse results vs the top 5 for better results vs the bottom 14 I'd take that every day of the week.
