Roberto Martinez discussion

I can fully understand criticism of Martinez after a poor performance or after a bad spell of form or whatever.

But some of the negativity after winning our last 2 games with an aggregate score of 10-2 and completely tearing Villa a new one yesterday without getting out of 2nd gear is quite baffling to me.

3 of our goals started with our centre half striding out with the ball and then 3/4 passes later the ball is in the net. How can you not be excited by that?

'Oh it was only Villa, they're terrible'. We made them look terrible. How many points did we drop at home last season against 'poor' teams? We were beaten by Sunderland last season because we didn't know how to break down a team which sat back and looked to hit us on the break. We're playing boss, scoring for fun and I'm loving it. Enjoy it ffs.

This x 1000

The issue is that people become entrenched in a view and regardless of what happens in front of their very own eyes, they will not change.

Subjectivity rather than objectivity. It's no different from some people utterly defending Martinez to the last even throughout an abysmal run.

Remember, sitting on the fence or even changing an opinion isn't allowed by many as it's seen as some sign of weakness or indecisiveness.

That means that some people have unfortunately become utterly pessimistic about Martinez and our style. Even a 4-0 win wont change that.

Personally, I'm quite happy with the direction at the moment. I still have questions and concerns, but you can't deny that we're playing well.

And long may it continue... praise where praise is due. And as long as it does then my concerns will stay as quite, constructive criticism.

He seems to have won the squad back over. Must have been some bad behind the scenes stuff last year. Perhaps the criticism levelled at him by myself and others was not his failings but more the failings of some bad eggs in the squad

If you're performing well and winning matches then it's much easier to have a happy dressing room with players, fans and staff more relaxed.

I'm not saying that there weren't dressing room issues last year, but the change in feelings could be more about correlation than causation.

Really I don't think we will find out what happened last season for a few more years. Was it just bad form or was there bad feelings?

I've just written this short letter (provisional) and I'm thinking of sending it off to the club:

To Roberto Martinez (c/o Everton FC),

Dear Roberto,

thank you so much for agreeing to be our manager two and a half years ago, triggering what has now become widely known as the rebirth of the blues. You led us out of a dark period in the club's history (indeed, many fans now refer to that period as our Dark Ages - a time when we had wandered far away from our heritage as a team renowned throughout the land as the leading proponent of what became known as Scientific Football).

You were left an ageing squad full of players who trembled in fear with the ball at their feet; yet you transformed these wrecks and gave them back their dignity as footballers, allowing them to realise their God given talents which the previous manager had forbidden they display. More than that though, you have overseen a revolution in attitude that sees our players wanting to dominate the opposition, no matter who they be or where we play them. This brand of swashbuckling football is now our trademark, our stamp. The rest of the nation have begun to sit up and take note of the rapier like attacks and imperious defending. They know that this is a club with a manager and young squad on the cusp of something truly remarkable.

So Roberto, once again I commend you and I thank you on behalf of all at GOT for your evangelising of the beautiful game, and your determination to see it practiced at a club that is no stranger to the tradition.

Regards,

davek

Thoughts?
Could you also thank him on my behalf for making it possible for a middle aged man to ejaculate again

I hope Leicester keep winning and stay up there. I would sooner see the usual suspects fall away giving other teams a chance at glory. I think we have every chance of pushing up there too, but we need to keep the key players fit.

I would do normally, but I've refused to get Mahrez or Vardy in my fantasy team all season so I hope they fail. Rather us up there than Leicester though.

I'm expecting them to finish around 6/7/8th tbh.

Constructive criticism is fine. It's the unfounded 'I don't like it' *stamps feet* crap that does my nut in.

Its a strange situation when weve destroyed the last two teams 6-2 and 4-0 and I've come out the ground frustrated that we haven't scored more. We put the game to bed and shut up shop really. The worry now is that if Deulofeu gets injured do we have another game plan. Villa's display today is the worst i have ever seen at Goodison and that includes when Ekoku put 3 past us in the 90's. Martinez has played a blinder getting Gerard back and more importantly making him a regular.
Ekoku scored 4 . I'm still scarred to this day .
