Roberto Martinez discussion

I can fully understand criticism of Martinez after a poor performance or after a bad spell of form or whatever.

But some of the negativity after winning our last 2 games with an aggregate score of 10-2 and completely tearing Villa a new one yesterday without getting out of 2nd gear is quite baffling to me.

3 of our goals started with our centre half striding out with the ball and then 3/4 passes later the ball is in the net. How can you not be excited by that?

'Oh it was only Villa, they're terrible'. We made them look terrible. How many points did we drop at home last season against 'poor' teams? We were beaten by Sunderland last season because we didn't know how to break down a team which sat back and looked to hit us on the break. We're playing boss, scoring for fun and I'm loving it. Enjoy it ffs.
No set piece goals. I'm absolutely furious. :coffee:

"The Entertainers".

"Everyone's favourite second team"

"Martinez's marvels"

....just three of the descriptions being used in Britain at the moment by neutrals. It makes you proud.

Yeah, clowns are known for being good entertainers.

Bobby clown shoes more like.

To be fair, if we wanted a clown we could have just got Steve Bruce and his stupid big red clown nose.

Fully expect us to be top 4 by Christmas. I'd be disappointed if we don't close the 6 point gap with the fixtures we've got. I'm expecting Leicester to drop out with their dreadful fixtures.

I hope Leicester keep winning and stay up there. I would sooner see the usual suspects fall away giving other teams a chance at glory. I think we have every chance of pushing up there too, but we need to keep the key players fit.

He is the Ring Master coaxing performances of perfection from his pride of young lions.

I heard that ^^^ this morning from a TalkSport caller in Kent who supports Arsenal and who's desperate for Wenger to be replaced by Roberto.

Yeah but that was Paul Merson who'd obviously been on the crack again.

Not wishing to be controversial but, and I am now firmly in the Martinez camp. I have oft heard it debated as to the reason for the unpopularity of the English amongst other races. My take is your ability to take a small/average thing and blow it up out of all proportion. England beat someone, say Switerland, and all of a sudden you are going to win the World Cup. When you don't win the World Cup you turn on the team or manager with vitriol. You tend to be black or white. I have no doubt in the weeks leading up to the Euros you will have convinced yourselves you are nailed on certs and when you don't win Woy will be pilloried.

Now for Martinez, he is doing well. Good squad, great football heading in the right direction. But he hasn't won anything. What he has done is earned the right to some time a space to get on with the job. So he won't be a failure if Everton don't win the league or even finish in the top four. If he wins a cup that is success, if he doesn't but has a couple of good runs that is progress.

Let us not dam him with unrealistic expectations. Give him time and space to improve gradually.
