Ah ****thebed, a ball hasn't been kicked in anger and its doom and gloom. He's in the hot seat, like or not, all we can do now is judge him by what happens at Everton on his watch. I don't think angsting helps.

Which posts have you seen that are doom and gloom about Martinez mate, I've seen about 2.

Martinez interviews on the OS are really good and refreshing, its nice that he letting us getting to know him, he doesn't seem to speak in riddles like Moyes who didn't really do positive interviews or have I missed those interviews? Love the way he is positive and talks about our players such as Jags and Baines. He also seems very honest in front of the camera as well. Looking forward to the next part. Sorry for going off topic.

Has Moyes mentioned anything about Martinez's appointment yet?

It just occurred to me I hadn't seen anything from him. He had loads to say before the appointment like. Seems strange the feller who held the job for the past 11 years hasn't commented with a few words of encouragement about his successor.

Maybe Ferguson's ordered him not to speak to the media. Would be embarrassing for Man Utd hearing him talking about knives to gunfights in relation to City and Chelsea.

He's off the radar at the moment isn't he?

Maybe he's contacted Martinez privately.

He did plenty for Everton when he'd left like. New man comes in and then it all stops. Maybe he's on his holidays. I'd have expected a word about his successor though, tbf.

Im sure we'll get some when he has his press conference when he officially takes over.

Nothing like the mask David Moyes kidded you all with that plucky old Everton should be happy with top 10. Never did I feel he was one of us

Mid-table would be very acceptable in his first season coming in and getting his formations and tactics known to the team and bedding in new recruits. Afterall, it's basically what even the trigger-happy Kopites were prepared to allow for their manager coming in - and one who had the luxury to spend well in excess of what Martinez will be allowed.

I'd hate to think we'd be more knee jerk than those fannies.

Absolutely not. If he finishes outside the top 7 with this team and with the net spend he seems set to have been allowed this year, he's had a poor first season. Mirallas, Fellaini, Jagielka, Baines, Distin, Gibson etc - that is a top 6 quality team Moyes has built. There's no getting away from that. It's settled, enthusiastic and ready to play for the new man. All he has to do is get his tactics right and keep the football good and we stay top 7 at least. Short-term we are laughing. I expect the best of his reign to come now. He has a massive opportunity to get some early success here, in the league and/or cups. He can do that. He's a decent manager.

He has said that he wants to move us on to "the next level" and that what is massively important here is that we don't "let the standards set by Moyes slip". He's right, because if we finish 10th next year we miss out on millions in prize money, probably a good bit of attendance revenue, surely lower season ticket sales for the year after and all that on the back of a net spend that the club are probably going to have to bend over backwards (knowing them, ffs) to give him.

If he finishes below the likes of West Ham and Fulham next year, expect an exodus from our quality players and a bigger hole in the debt to be filled, not to mention a deflated atmosphere around the club. You are making excuses for him that he wouldn't even make for himself, already.

I don't expect him to be successful in the long-term. I won't fume if he slowly takes us down the league. It's what should happen, really. It's what would have happened had Moyes not been so good for us. As long as he's notably slowing that decline and performing better in cup competition than Moyes, I'm happy for him to stay. I do like the lid after all, as well.
