Roberto Martinez discussion

Why would I highlight the many good things hes done (some brilliant) when im highlighting his weaknesses so far?

I dont have time to list his positives.

Can you back up how those three signings can be considered anything other than disasters? Also take a look at players whose contracts are expiring soon and arent top quality yet have not been replaced or recycled?

Im currently enjoying turkey and roquefort cheese on ciabatta bread which is another form of popcorning I suppose.

Calling Robles a disaster is flat out silly...for someone who always wants to give youth a chance, I'm actually quite surprised that you are riding a young lad who has potential.

Alcaraz was free...and knows the system. I reckon he's probably been quite helpful on the training ground with the likes of Stones, Jags, and Distin.

The sandwich sounds boss.

Normally go for the gruyere with turkey but today I splashed out.

It does appear that those 3 signing were made to quickly by martinez as he hadnt assessed the playing staff at that point.

If you add up all the wages and fees includinf agent fees theres a hefty chunk gone on 2 players on short contracts...kone ald alcaraz to me are total failures and will never make the grade.

Robles, yes he can be given time. However would you feel confortable if howard got injured seeing him as first choice? Its a tough one as howard has improved and money should be spent on other areas BUT hes also on a 4 year contract which seems excessive to me for a player of his age -- does this mean thst martinez feels robles is 4 years away?

I'm beginning to hate the place, and I'm not even joking. If I posted my honest thoughts just 10% of the time lately, I'd be banned in next to no time.
Aye. Honestly I came on here and loved it as most people werent weapons, some knew their stuff and some didn't but it was alright. Nothing was 'sacred' as such and with a few choice words anything was easily turned into a laugh which most enjoyed.
Now people come on, and expect everything to be serious.
  • People complained about Cat Gifs ffs so now gifs are removed on sight in the Everton Forum. Now we just have to read a dreary monotony of FM dream player monologues, with the occasional transfer rumour. Gifs were a great way of breaking this.
  • Theres been an increase in certain posters who post utter bollocks, then fume when they get pulled up on it. I honestly never used negs as yeah sure there were a few negative lads but you just ignored them or had a chat as they were mostly sound and had other redeeming features. Now theres people that are utter muppets, and need a neg to show them the scale of the faeces they're posting.
I have a slight smile whenever I smite someone with a neg, as I know it hurts being "negged" by a random person they will never meet in real life. I swear it saddens me some of the tosh that is posted, as it actually reminds me of the delusion that stems from RAWK.
Highlight is when they start a thread about rep abuse though, those are ACE.
  • Slowly and sadly the casual irreverency and humour and homosexual banter is being lost from GOT.(n)(n)(n)(n)(n)

Oh and so I'm on topic, Bobby is ace and we'll win things under him.
Building a team that if it is kept together will grow organically to become title contenders and lift us that 10th Title we've waited 27 years for.

Smoked Gruyere is incredible.

For me the signings made a massive amount of sense. You sign with a new team that has a pretty established roster, and want to install a completely different style. Bringing in some known commodities who already know your system is a no brainer. He brought in a keeper, a defender, a midfielder, and a striker who already knew his system. Injuries to Alcaraz and Kone didn't help, but still, for me it makes a massive amount of sense. When I left a previous job and joined a similar organization, I cherry picked a few of my employees who knew my expectations.

There's 3 or 4 categories of GOT posters, imo.

Category one: Brownie, LCAB, JDawg, THT, Reidy, Sharpy - the old school GOT lids.

Category two: Chico, Bungle, Goat, Pats Van, Bluemangroup, Kurt - All good blues who prefer an acerbic posting style, whilst not being total bells.

Category three: The bells who think they would make a decent footy manager/tactician.

Category four: The kopites and wums.

Soz if I've left anybody out, y'all xx

is it possible to overlap into more than one category? ;)

Far too many Cat 3 and 4 folks around these days. -10 neg was absolutely necessary. Thank you @GrandOldTeam.

In fact its been shown statistically that in business if you cherry pick staff from your old company or even a rival most times they will fail in the new company.

Individually if you single out a few guys just to be objective;

Alcaraz - Came to wigan on a free...massively Injury prone...signs for us....massively injury prone.

Kone - Came to wigan after one good season in many years....was the focal point of their attack...scored double figures of relative tap ins...otherwise limited as a headless chicken...signs for us...misses sitters...looks like a headless chicken...injured for 12 months minimum.

Both players now have 1 and 2 years on contracts and are never above average players. Better off combining their costs and signing one decent player.

Robles looks like an accident waiting to happen in every game. Why sign a kid when he wont develop on the bench and your main keeper has 4 more years? Better off signing an experienced keeper on a rolling contract.

The Kones and Alvarezes of the world are for me panic, feel good purchases when a Manager goes to a new club. Not going to take you to the next level, but make you feel more secure in the new job...

Disagree...the statistics may show otherwise, but it's worked brilliantly for me over the years.

We'll just have to agree to disagree. Trying to say he's not good in the transfer market (which I believe you were suggesting in your original post) is simply not true. He's done some incredible business. Nobody gets it right with every transfer.

Disagree about Robles. Older players tend to be injury prone, and need rest. Robles will get games this season. He's young, and has something that can't be taught...he's a big unit. Learning from one of the best ain't gonna hurt either.
