Roberto Martinez discussion

Last year we got the third best defensive record. This season we conceded a whopping ten goals in the first three games. Yeah it is a bit like Wigan MK-II BUT the players will pick up the pace after the international break. Fingers crossed.

Not sure if some of the knee-jerk posts on here are serious. I hope not.

Yesterdays result was shocking in terms of our CB's performance and no doubt there is an issue there. If Bobby wasn't aware that there was a problem there then he sure does now. The thing is, I have complete faith that he will fix it. I doubt he will bring in a player today to remedy the problem. It's more likely that he will drop Distin for Stones and do some work on the training pitch.

I think we will see a new CB at the club in January.

But we have has this concern since pre-season, pre-season was a mess for some reason, our defence have looked appalling and not looking any better. Hope Martinez can fix this quickly.

...and hopefully if Duffy had to go it means he's clearing the decks for one CB to come in.
would indicate it.wouldnt it...

That would be good that. Doubt it would be "straight into the XI kind of a CB" though.

Bobby trusts Jags/Distin. That wont be changing in near future. Next season is another thing.

I think the World Cup had a detrimental effect on our pre-season preparation. i.e. players returning late, Bobby doing his TV work which irked me somewhat. I think Bobby knew before yesterday that our defense has not been anywhere near last seasons level but yesterdays result highlighted that there is a problem which cannot be attributed just to the summer break.

I hate picking on people but I think Distin is struggling. Any CB pairing is only as strong as its weakest link and I think Distins performances are having a negative effect on Jags. Yesterdays performance really brought Distin into the spotlight for me. He just seems to be mentally well off the pace. Jags is probably spending more time than he should worrying what Distin is doing at the moment.

I'm sure Bobby knows full well what the situation is and he will sort it out. The worry now though is how quickly can he fix it.

After the last three games ? I have seen some bad defending , but in all three they have been at fault with other as I may add , but Jags has been all over the place - No competition other than Stones now - Teams are beginning to sus us out poor in the air, and playing it to slowly out of the back - Barry, and McCarthy spend too much time covering for our central defenders, and the chosen one pressed us hard in the first 3 minutes yesterday = 2 goals conceded - - We fought back well but again every time they stepped up a gear we conceded!
It is that bad we have no dominant centre half between the pair of them in bold so RM has to sort them out!!!
I have seen some great centre half's for the blues, and I know when they look finished - RM has to get someone with experience who is fast and can head the ball at the back!

I knew all along that we would have a slow start. Preseason was strategically planned...europe and all...

Many times Ive wondered what kind of CBs Bobby likes?
I mean these two really arent the best with the ball. Anyways, our defence was boss last season and it is the Same today...They are just having a bad spell.
That being said...I wouldnt mind new CB to make them work harder and to give little adrenalin shot to our back line

The defensive issues worry me, they really do

I don't know what we do about it though

You can drop Jags and Distin, but then you're playing a young Stones and a less than stellar Alacaraz

I don't know the answer. Hopefully Martinez does and does something about it. And fast

We have one of the best four managers in the country. No question in my mind that if Martinez was playing with the same finances as Wenger, Mourinho and Pellegrini he'd be certain to win a PL title and qualify for the CL each season.

He's made a massive error with his preseason schedule, but more than anything he's been let down by a central defence unit who have been criminally negligent at the beginning of this season. If I were him I'd be drawing a line under those two right now, because they were hopeless at times last season too. They may improve but they'll always let him down with lack of concentration. They are not now top defenders and never will be again.

If my reputation rested on them as his does, I'd take urgent action.

Moyes had plenty of terrible starts and it's not like we ever hounded him out. things will pick up. He just needs to sort Jags and Distin out, whether that be by dropping one or both or signing someone new.

On the positive side our attack is looking very strong and that's before Lukaku's even got going.

God i can't believe some of the ridiculous kneejerk comments about Martinez in this thread.

Good enough to be Barcelona manager my arse ffs.
