Roberto Martinez discussion

I get the impression more that some posters are whinging because they believe we should be beating all and sundry, not because were not in the title race, IMO a top 6 finish isn't a lot to ask with this squad of players.

We're never going to agree Ian, but I mentioned it earlier, Martinez has been here 2 and a half years, finished 5th and 11th, gave us our highest points total, in the semi's of a cup, and playing some of the best footy for ages, that's why I'm keeping the faith.
That's fine about us not agreeing but don't do what some of the lesser poster do on here and exaggerate what posters like myself are after, I don't think we should be beating all and sundry, but more along the line since the collapse of Moyes' defence we have won 18 in 57 league games....some will say it was nothing to do with Moyes I would counter that by asking why hasn't he been able to get us anywhere near the amount of clean sheets since, which clearly would have provided us with more wins an no arguments.

Yeah, but you have to place it in context. In the PL of the time those in bold would have been viewed as very good first team players outside all but the elite.

A huge amount of absolute rot in that squad. Virtually nothing to sell to raise funds either; Martinez got £27m for Fellaini.

My points aren't directly aimed at you Ian because you are actually one of the more level headed on here, and when you post you do actually make a good argument without ridiculing people, and you've always stuck to what you believe in, that's not to say though that I have to agree with you. Also, there are lads on here who moan just for the sake of it.

Where was Smith's Everton in the league when Moyes took over?

Where was Moyes' Everton in the league when Martinez took over?

It's not apples with pears...
That's not to say they were bad players though, just that Smith was hopeless getting the best from them. Weir, Stubbs, Carsely, Gravesen, Ferguson, Radzinski, Rooney (lest we forget) became the core of Moyes' first assembled team. It's not like he had to come in and just use the academy players.

The thing for me is this, near the end of Moyes time I had lost a little patience, I felt he had built a superb first 11 and I really didnt think he was getting the best out of it.

Martinez has expanded on that, his work in the transfer market has been a major plus for me, he added quality to the first 11 and also bulked the squad up with some excellent "back up" players, but now, like most, im starting to think hes not getting the best out of the side.

I still remain firm, I dont want him sacked, something which wont happen anytime soon anyway, but something needs to change.

I could show you Everton's present extended squad list and we could say without a shadow of a doubt most probably wont be used if we got a new manager tomorrow.

That's interesting, it's a bit like that today then.
