Roberto Martinez discussion

Oh sure. Not sure what this has to do with Martinez being a balloon/genius though!

Other than we are not beating that many put in front of us atm.

Indeed.

If people are comparing Martinez with Moyes, then their win rate has to be thrown in.

Martinez has 2% on Moyes.

Granted, you could argue the league may be more competitive now with the Sky money etc - but we too benefit from that, and final point tally/league positions are consistent with back then.

Leicester have been brilliant, but at the end of the day they have also been lucky with injuries, let's see how they cope without Vardy because they have no squad depth.

*Thinks Lukaku and thanks him for saving us from relegation battle.

What a terrible point from someone so pro Martinez....that's what you call a free hit.

But if that's all it was it isn't really worth mentioning. I'm sure it went on with Kenwright/Moyes (in fact I think it's well document by kenwright). So basically a mundane working relationship conversation has been seized on (not by you) to portray a manager teetering on the edge.

On reflection, I think that's the rub here.

My understanding of what was frustrating the board/owner/hierarchy was that Martinez was not dealing with an obvious problem. A problem that would not be tolerated at Everton, even it would have been at Wigan.

Hence the "Taken to task" comment. A bollocking, but for his/our benefit. And the source was impeccable. My interpretation maybe less so.

Maybe so, but if true it's staggering (not only for the absolute hypocrisy of it - as noted above) but the patronising nature of it. Would said director(s) have had a word with Moyes when we stunk the first half of the season out on regular occasions running up magnificent 22 point totals at Christmas? I think we know Moyes would have taken their bollocks off.

I do agree with much of what you say ,Howard Everton at this stage did not have the quality that the current side has but times have changed we will not be able to keep the current squad together unless we can win something this year.
The big difference between the 2 managers is that Kendall from day one showed the players who was boss buying Mickey Thomas (who was a big name at the time ) and getting rid right away when he refused to play for the reserves, the players could see he was the boss.
Roberto seems to be unable to drop Howard and it definitely seems to be a case of the tail wagging the dog.
I have run a business over 25 and I really dont care whether people like me or not I make decisions based on what is best for the business if you show weakness people take the piss.

He's been getting slated after dropping Mirallas for seemingly being a big arse.

Whilst he's also chased a former world player of the year and Distin for being bad eggs.

I was told by someone in the game when we signed Martinez that he's highly rated by everyone with his only major flaw being that he's too weak with the players. I think he proved to be the exact opposite or he's certainly adapted to prove he's not too soft.

Goalkeeper is the one position were managers generally don't chop and change although I expect Howard's time is now up and we'll see that over the next month.

Avg age of Moyes' inherited squad would have been older...

agree but will be happy when we hit 42 given our capacity to seize defeat or draws from deep within the jaws of victory.
The club is most important not any individual so those trusted with the stewardship of our club must do what's best for our success as a club

but it looks like you're saying certain poster/fans are moaning because we're not in the title race?

I get the impression more that some posters are whinging because they believe we should be beating all and sundry, not because were not in the title race, IMO a top 6 finish isn't a lot to ask with this squad of players.

We're never going to agree Ian, but I mentioned it earlier, Martinez has been here 2 and a half years, finished 5th and 11th, gave us our highest points total, in the semi's of a cup, and playing some of the best footy for ages, that's why I'm keeping the faith.

Yeah, but you have to place it in context. In the PL of the time those in bold would have been viewed as very good first team players outside all but the elite.

I hope so mate because if he doesnt sort it out it will cost him his job

Absolutely no idea mate. Perhaps they did at times, in fact, it would be weird if they didnt come to think of it.

But Season 1 and Season 2 were chalk and cheese, so I see it as the board giving him the go ahead to mix things up, if needs be. That perhaps he needed to hear?
