Roberto Martinez discussion

Ok...now Moyes' history is being rewritten. He had us aspiring for titles? He talked about Everton being a club that should be winning titles?

No mate, he didn't. He was a good manager for us when we needed it. That FA Cup final you're talking about sums up Moyes' bottling knife to a gun fight tenure.

We got a crazy early goal...then tried to sit on 1-0 for 89 minutes. It was my second 'favorite' Moyes fail after of course losing 3-0 to Wigan at home. 11 years of MEH.

He turned us into a competitive club with no chance of anything...and never really aspired for it.

Rather just sorta made it seem great that we were a top half side. Plucky little Everton.

What on earth are you talking about?

Go back and have a look at the side we were up against in the Chelsea final. If he'd gone gung-ho in that we'd have been massacred. There's a chance for Fellaini that would have made it 2-0. Who knows, different game.

You conveniently ignore the Fiorentina game, where we absolutely went for it. Perhaps you didn't get to see that one.

Martinez has us in one semi, and you think this is a sign of us having 'a chance'? Give over. Any aspirations (lol) Martinez may have had in the league have evaporated with the 6 wins in 19 games.

One of Martinez's biggest cheerleaders on here started trumpeting the fact that we've only conceded 9 goals in 9 away games this season - the sixth best in the league! Wow! High watermark or what?? And here's me thinking that Martinez has his people all dreaming big.

Never really aspired to anything, but Martinez does hey. Despite not having the results for 18 months to back it up. But he talks a good game, and that's enough for the 'superfans' like yourself.

Yep, you are. Try and re-write it for Martinez over the last 18 months. He'll need you to if we get new owners. It's the usual defence from the deludes - 'Don't like Martinez?? You must be pro-Moyes!!!' Nope. Was glad when he left as he had gone stale. Hated Neville as captain.

You're weird.

And mighty Stoke full of international stars and mid-table confidence crashed at Tony Pulis' side...just an observation
Well, if we're gonna nitpick like that - Stoke have also beaten Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea (twice), Southampton... just an observation.

And West Brom also beat Arsenal earlier the season and seem to be Stoke's bogey team, but hey-ho, let's point and laugh at Everton instead, because we're on an Everton forum anyway.

Some player you are, lad.

we're going to beat Spurs as well

2-0

So he's basically said were not the finished article but will be aiming to improve over the course of the season.

A handful of players are good enough to stay with us and mount a title challenge in a couple of seasons if the rebuilding continues in the same way.

You guys play some superb football at times, and are also building a very capable squad, with some clever and acquisition, but the team seems to lose its concentration at crucial moments which is incredibly frustrating, you should not be anywhere near 11th place.

Martinez definitely has his positives, as have been described above, but as it stands the team is definitely underachieving.

A manager who could do a fantastic job for you guys with providing that defensive solidity whilst maintaining the attacking flair is Lucien Favre.

Not good enough. I predicted after our December run we'd be pushing top 4. Out of seven games we fluked a win v Newcastle and drawn 3 lost 3? Terrible.

The stat of last 57 games is aweful. W18 D19 L20...

New manager needed. But who?

Not sure where all this Moyes stuff is coming from. However, we seem to be overlooking something fairly significant. Everyone wants this club back in Europe...agreed? Martinez has come out and said "I'll get us in the Champions League"...and for whatever reason been derided for it. He took the Europa seriously and with the exception of Kiev away we never got spanked or schooled. Moyes on the other hand always talked about 40 points and definitely feared big pressure games...how many times did we get embarrassed away in the Europa against mediocre sides. The FA cup semi against Liverpool sealed it for me....too lacking in confidence about his own team against a very poor Liverpool side.
Moyes did some great stuff for us no doubt, and I'll always thank him for that, but he was dour and lacked confidence and belief and that rubbed off on the players. Martinez is polar opposite.

I'd much rather go and have a go believing than turn up with the white flag and roll over. To be positive you've got to talk positive first and believe in your team and it's capability -even when there's flaws. For me anyhow, I much prefer brown brogues to brown undies.

No need for a new manager mate. The current one isn't going anywhere.
