Roberto Martinez discussion

I'm not saying they didn't have chances am I? I'm saying he made us as solid as he could and we played on the counter at home. We needed more of the ball, granted but that's hardly the managers instructions is it?

Second half we had more composure and then aided by pace on 60 against a tired Spurs.

And "a draw at home". Not sure if you've seen, but spurs are one of the best sides in the league on form. Title contenders.

We...aren't.

No indeed. In fact, we got a lesson in how to play the football we aspire to - but apparently, our football is the envy of all.

We've got the best striker in the country and we aren't even top four contenders... let alone title contenders.

But for the woodwork they could have been out of sight at half time as, yet again, we were setup wrongly from the start. The changes HAD to be made; it couldn't have been any worse, could it really on that first half performance.

We're (well you and Walter Mitty @hullefc) lauding a home draw... because it's a bit of an improvement from getting beat at home to Leicester and Stoke. Not much of one like, but hey, if you're desperate to defend Martinez it's any port in a storm right now.

6 wins in 20 with Chelsea and City away as the next two league fixtures. He's squandered the easy run of fixtures and he's in the deep end now, make no mistake.

Some fans seem happy with draws, how our standards have slipped.
If moysie was in charge now the pitchforks would be out

We were alright today to be fair (in the second half anyway)

If we defend more like that for the rest of the season, I think you'll see us ship less goals

Again, we'll see where we are after the City and Chelsea games

Martinez has a whole month to strengthen if needs be, both in the playing and coaching staff

A draw at home to Spurs , whilst frustrating because of our recent run, isn't so bad. Good side. Its the draws at Norwich and Bournemouth away, plus drawing with Palace and losing to Leicester and Stoke (all at home) thats damaging. 3 wins at home, two of which were against Villa and Sunderland just doesn't cut it I'm afraid. Our away record is ok, but our home record stinks. End of.

And why arnt we? For me its because we have a clown of a manager who can't organise a defence and has blind loyalty to a clearly past it goalkeeper amongst others.

Gone backwards compared to 13/14, but I'd say we've moved forwards compared to 14/15.

The thing is last year we all said 14/15 wasn't good enough but 13/14 was good enough so we had to give him a third season to see which was the real martinez.

And we kind of all hoped that we'd a get a second 13/14 or at least a second 14/15 so we knew for sure which way to go.

Instead it's been allright. Not as bad as last year, not as good as previous. And it's a bit harder to call it.

But it was alright second half Mikey.

The first half was probably the worst performance of the season, utterly farcical.

On current form, we could (and everything crossed it ain't) be on 27 points from 22 games. It's a shocking waste of a talented squad.

The balance isn't there, I totally agree

The attack is stupendous and the defence isn't

I truthfully don't think it's beyond Martinez to get us defending better, but I think he'll need to do the following

Drop Howard

Get in a new defensive coach and give him/her enough autonomy to make the required changes

Get a more experienced CB in in case Jags goes down again

We're underperforming, let's face it there is absolutely no denying it. However, please take into consideration that this a new year. Our first game started out horrible but slowly we were exactly what most wanted us to be- a beautiful transitional footballing team.

Perhaps a sign of our season. Started out slowly, but we are starting to fix things in the second half and it still might be a memorable season after all.

I don't disagree with any of this really however that team today stopped a very fluid spurs side from getting their top performers firing on all cylinders. It was a good point and the manager got it spot on.

Norwich, I'd blame Kone and Lukaku for missing sitters.
Bournemouth I'd blame the entire side for not dropping deep and stopping the cross.
Stoke I'd blame Martinez. We were so open.
Leicester I'd blame Martinez. We were so open.

I'm not advocating shielding Martinez from all criticism. The defence has been naive at times to say the least and that's his responsibility.

I'd repeat my first point though. Today he got it right. Today it was a good point.

If you believe that we should be battering them, and in not doing so and achieving your expectations you have a justified stick to beat the manager with then carry on.
